During the November Xbox Partner Preview, Cybernetic Walrus revealed that their game, Roadside Research, is heading to Xbox and will be available with Xbox Game Pass on day one. The game has a unique premise that you likely won’t expect!
What even is Roadside Research?
I’m really excited about this new game, Roadside Research! It’s a co-op simulator where up to four of us can play, and the twist is we’re all aliens! We have to pretend to be humans running a gas station – things like stocking shelves and helping customers. It sounds hilarious because the whole point is to blend in and not get discovered. The description even says, ‘Just don’t get caught!’ which just makes it sound even more fun.
Throughout the game, players secretly collect information about humans as they plan for an alien invasion. The game warns that attracting too much attention will alert the government and could ruin their mission.
The game is clearly a comedy, and the trailer shows you why. You play as an alien—one of those classic little green men—and to fit in on Earth, you need to make a disguise. You create a face mask to look human, but it doesn’t have to be convincing at all!
As a Game Pass subscriber, I love that it lets me try out games I wouldn’t normally jump to purchase. I’ve been hearing about Roadside Research, and honestly, Game Pass feels like the perfect way to see if it’s something I’ll really enjoy without committing to a full price purchase.

Players will live double lives: by day, they’ll work at a gas station, trying to appear like ordinary people. By night, they’ll use what they’ve observed about humans to improve the gas station, drawing in more customers and learning even more about them.
Roadside Research will be released between January and March 2026 and will be available to Game Pass Ultimate subscribers on both Xbox and PC right away. It’s currently unknown if the game will also be released on PlayStation.
A free demo is now available on Steam and has been very popular! As of early October, over 260,000 people have played it, and it’s been added to over 300,000 user wishlists.
What else has Cybernetic Walrus made?
Cybernetic Walrus is a small, independent game studio focused on creating immersive virtual experiences, particularly simulation games. They previously developed the horror game Order 13, where players manage orders in a spooky warehouse while caring for a cat. Their other projects include Does It Stack, a physics-based puzzle game for Meta Quest VR, and Antigravitator, a fast-paced, futuristic racing game.
You don’t have to pay extra for Game Pass… for now
Microsoft announced a significant price increase for Xbox Game Pass in October, particularly for Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, and also made some adjustments to other subscription levels. The monthly cost of Game Pass Ultimate jumped by 50%, now costing $30. Fortunately, many retailers, including Amazon, haven’t implemented the price change yet, so you can still subscribe to Game Pass Ultimate for $20 a month or $60 for a three-month period.
