Al Gough and Miles Millar, the creators and executive producers of the hit show Wednesday, are developing a new horror fantasy series for Netflix. They previously achieved record-breaking success with their Addams Family spin-off, starring Jenna Ortega. Now, they’re partnering with Netflix again to adapt the comic book Grim, created by Stephanie Philips and Flaviano, into an animated series for adult audiences.
According to Deadline, Gough and Millar will be executive producers on the project, alongside Jennifer Yuh Nelson, who directed episodes of Netflix’s Love, Death + Robots. Aaron Schmidt joins as an executive producer through Millar/Gough Ink, and Stephen Christy and Adam Yoelin will executive produce for Boom! Studios. Mette Norkjaer will co-executive produce with Phillips and Flaviano, the creators of the original comic book series. That series launched in 2022 and quickly became popular, running for 25 successful issues before concluding earlier this month.
“Grim” is a character-focused supernatural story that would likely make a great TV series. It follows Jessica Harlow, a new Reaper responsible for guiding souls to the afterlife. What makes Jessica different is that she doesn’t remember how she died, and begins a quest to uncover her past. As she investigates, she discovers a potentially surprising link to Death itself. The show promises to be a thrilling mystery that will keep audiences guessing alongside the main character.
‘Wednesday’ Is Also Returning for a Third Season

Netflix
Netflix has announced a third season of Wednesday will be coming, even before the first part of Season 2 has premiered. Jenna Ortega will return as the lead, and most of the original cast will be back too, including Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester – a character fans especially love. In addition to the new season, a spin-off series focusing on Uncle Fester is reportedly being developed, and a reboot of the animated Addams Family movie is also in the works. This all demonstrates how popular the Addams Family has become for Netflix, and the streamer is actively exploring ways to build on that success.
It took almost three years for the second season of Wednesday to arrive, largely due to the recent Hollywood strikes which caused delays for many shows and movies. The season finale left viewers with several unanswered questions and a tantalizing glimpse of what’s to come, so fans are eager for Season 3. While the next episodes are expected to be filmed starting in early 2026, potentially leading to a release in mid-to-late 2027, that timeline isn’t guaranteed, as the show’s creators, Gough and Millar, are now also working on other projects.
