Surprisingly, several key free updates for popular Nintendo Switch 2 games – including Super Mario Odyssey – weren’t created by Nintendo themselves. Panic Button, an external development team, has confirmed they worked on updates for three titles: Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, and Arms.
Panic Button, the developers behind several Nintendo Switch ports, recently shared their work on free updates for the new Switch 2 console. They explained on X (formerly Twitter) that Nintendo requested their help showcasing the console’s enhanced features while staying true to the original games. These updates include HDR support for titles like Arms, Super Mario Odyssey, and Bowser’s Fury, as well as GameShare functionality added to Super Mario Odyssey and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury.
Panic Button was thrilled when Nintendo chose us to update some of their classic Nintendo Switch games. Nintendo wanted us to showcase what the new Nintendo Switch 2 could do, all while staying true to the original games everyone loves.

Panic Button is a studio known for successfully bringing games to the Nintendo Switch. They previously ported popular titles like Doom and Doom Eternal to the original Switch, and also helped bring Warframe to the platform. More recently, they worked on Forza Horizon 5 for PlayStation 5, which was the first time a Forza game was ever released on PlayStation.
So, Nintendo’s been busy! I found out they actually bought Shiver Entertainment last year – those guys did a great job getting games like Hogwarts Legacy running on the Switch. Apparently, they were helping out with WWE 2K25 for the Switch 2 too. Just a heads-up, Panic Button is still an independent studio. Oh, and totally out of the blue, Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition just dropped on both Switch and Switch 2 earlier this week! It was a nice surprise.
