Peter Morgan, the creator of The Crown – known for its incredible cast including Claire Foy, Matt Smith, and Olivia Colman – has a knack for assembling talented actors. He’s now using that skill for his next project: a new adaptation of Ira Levin’s 1976 novel, The Boys From Brazil. He’s gathered a fantastic group of performers to bring this dramatic story to life on screen.
Variety reports that Netflix has greenlit a five-episode limited series from Morgan. The show will star Jeremy Strong, Gillian Anderson, Shira Haas, Daniel Brühl, August Diehl, and Lizzy Caplan. This marks a reunion between Anderson and the showrunner, as they previously collaborated on seasons 3 and 4 of The Crown, where Anderson played Margaret Thatcher. It will also be the third project for Brühl and Diehl, following their work together on Inglourious Basterds and The King’s Man.

Jeremy Strong, known for his recent work on The Social Reckoning with Aaron Sorkin, will portray Yakov Liebermann, a Holocaust survivor dedicated to finding and bringing Nazi criminals to justice – a character based on the real-life work of Simon Wiesenthal. The story, which unfolds over many years, reveals a plot involving Dr. Johann-Friedrich Meinhardt (August Diehl), a scientist hiding in South America who is attempting to create biological clones of Adolf Hitler.
This isn’t the first time Ira Levin’s novel, The Boys From Brazil, has been brought to the screen. A well-known 1978 film version directed by Franklin J. Schaffner starred Gregory Peck, James Mason, and Laurence Olivier. This new series marks Peter Morgan’s first project following the end of The Crown in 2023. He’s also known for acclaimed works like Frost/Nixon (originally a play he wrote), The Last King of Scotland, The Queen, and Rush.
The new limited series will be filmed across four countries – the UK, Germany, Bulgaria, and Spain – with production starting next month. While we don’t know exactly when it will be released, the earliest Netflix subscribers can expect it is likely late 2026.
I’m so excited about this new Netflix project! With all the incredible people working on it, I have a feeling it’s going to be huge. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for more news as things progress – I can’t wait to find out what they have planned!
