Adapting video games into movies is very popular, and “Chained Together” is poised to be the next independent game to make that leap from screen to cinema.
I remember when Chained Together first dropped on Steam – it was June 19th, 2024. Seriously, it blew up almost instantly! Within just a few days, I saw it peaking at over 94,000 people playing at the same time on PC. It was crazy how quickly everyone jumped on board.
Popular streamers and content creators faced a challenging escape from a virtual hellscape, often working together to climb and jump their way to freedom. The game allowed up to four players to connect, but coordinating movements was tricky – a single mistake could send them tumbling back to the beginning.
Even though the story is fairly simple, Hollywood is still interested in adapting it for the big screen. A movie based on ‘Chained Together’ is officially in development, and here’s a first look at the details.

A Chained Together movie is happening
Deadline announced on November 19, 2025, that the movie Chained Together has been approved for production. However, it’s very early in the process, and details about the plot, actors, and other specifics haven’t been released yet.
The project is being led by writing partners Cory Todd Hughes and Adrian Speckert. They began working together in 2024 with a film called Armor, which starred Sylvester Stallone and currently has a rating of 3.6 on IMDB.
In 2025, they released another movie, Under Fire, which currently has a 4.7 rating on IMDB.
The company currently has four projects in development, including films based on two video games. In addition to ‘Chained Together,’ they’re also starting pre-production on a movie adaptation of the indie horror game, ‘Finding Frankie’.

It’s currently unclear how “Chained Together” will translate to a full-length movie, but the writers believe the core idea has a lot of comedic potential.
Speckert and Hughes told Deadline that “Chained Together” quickly grabs players with its funny gameplay, difficult puzzles, and focus on working together.
Because players rely on each other in this game, it allows for exciting, story-driven moments. We’re thrilled to share this experience with both longtime fans and new players.
