The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Recap: Splitting Hairs

Meredith Marks causing chaos with the FAA has surprisingly turned things around for Britani. While it initially seemed like Meredith was creating a major disaster, everyone is now focused on cheering Britani up. After constantly seeking attention since joining the show, she’s finally getting the spotlight. The cast – excluding Meredith and Lisa, who are acting like critical observers – organized a potluck and, as a gesture of support for Britani, all styled their hair to mimic her famously voluminous look. With Angie’s playful help and a lot of hairspray, they ended up looking hilariously frazzled. Bronwyn even created a craft station to make stuffed animals, trying to replace the unicorn Britani threw away – a gesture that feels strangely reminiscent of giving a beloved pet one last special day.

Even Mary, who isn’t particularly fond of Britani, believes her version of what happened with Meredith. That’s a strong sign it actually occurred, because Mary would never support Britani unless she felt it was absolutely necessary. Britani is loving all the attention from her stuffed animals. And even when the topic shifts to Bronwyn’s argument with Todd – she cleverly left her wedding ring off to make sure people noticed – Britani manages to make it about herself, dramatically gasping at the news and causing her plushies to fall off the couch.

Let’s circle back to that later. Right now, we’re focusing on Lisa and John, who are having issues. Lisa is upset about something that happened a few days ago: she was giving advice to Henry when John interrupted and tried to control what she said. While this specific instance bothered her, she explains it’s part of a larger pattern. She feels John doesn’t acknowledge or support her feelings, which she already deals with from other cast members, but expects to be different with him. This explains why Lisa has been so emotional this season – she’s feeling attacked from all sides, and John, who she usually relies on for support, hasn’t been there for her. It makes sense that she’s hesitant to go against Meredith, as Meredith is currently Lisa’s only source of support.

Compared to the Barlows’ issues, Britani and Jared’s relationship is a real mess. Their hike together, even though they’re supposedly “on a break,” is incredibly awkward. Jared doesn’t even ask how Britani is doing after her difficult flight, instead immediately accusing her of flirting with other people on the boat. Even though they’re not officially together, he brings it up, which at least gives us some fun footage of Britani chatting with guys. The conversation quickly escalates into a fight about Jared’s inability to commit, and he shockingly tells her he’s looking for someone “stable.” He’s lucky this episode isn’t airing before BravoCon, because if the fans had seen him avoid defining their relationship and witnessed this conversation, he’d likely have been escorted out of the event.

Following the show’s pattern of addressing issues in threes, Bronwyn and Todd’s troubled relationship is also brought to light this episode. Surprisingly, she manages to get him to discuss it on camera – likely a condition for his return. While they don’t reveal the details of what happened, many questions remain: Did Todd admit to everything? Was it another online affair? A single mistake? Who was sending him inappropriate photos, and why wasn’t his phone on airplane mode? Instead of specifics, they talk generally about past issues and whether being open about their relationship and sex life could work for them now. Frankly, I don’t want to hear about Todd’s sex life, and he clearly feels just as uncomfortable discussing it on camera. He quickly dismisses the idea of an open relationship, saying he’s happy with things as they are. However, Bronwyn doesn’t seem satisfied, so I suspect this conversation isn’t over yet.

This episode felt a bit like watching couples therapy, but without a therapist! One constant on the show, though, is the beautiful portrait of Mary’s grandmother and Jesus walking together. Seeing that portrait means we’re back at Mary’s newly renovated church, which is decorated with what look like golden arches – a lovely tribute to her favorite restaurant, presumably. This is Mary’s first sermon in about two years due to the renovations, and it makes you wonder where everyone went during that time and how they all reappeared so quickly.

Once we were inside and saw all the energy, it was clear why everyone came back as soon as they were able. It’s hard to imagine anyone wanting to miss Mary’s hour-long talk, especially with her golden microphone and decorated bible! All the other Housewives were there to support her too—even Meredith, who showed up with a boot on her foot after spraining her toe. The other women were surprised to see her, but given her faith and practice of speaking in tongues, she felt she couldn’t miss it.

The most memorable moment came during one of Lisa’s interview segments. Wearing a cowboy hat, she casually stated she believes joy can be found in all religions – except the Church of Satan, to which they still make donations. The producer was so surprised they asked her to explain! Lisa clarified that if members of the Church of Satan request tequila, they happily provide it, emphasizing they don’t discriminate. She really stood by that statement, even mentioning on national television that she gives away free Vida Tequila to Satanists. I find her completely fascinating – she feels like undeniable proof of a higher power.
