A 91-year-old man in China has become an internet sensation after beating the video game Resident Evil Requiem entirely on his own, without looking up any help or walkthroughs.
Yang Binglin, nicknamed “Game Grandpa” online, is gaining popularity for his videos of him playing Resident Evil Requiem. He’s known for his calm and skillful gameplay, like precisely shooting enemies as Leon with a rifle and sneaking past scary creatures as Grace.
What’s really impressed viewers is how 91-year-old Yang manages to play the game. Instead of looking up guides online, he carefully writes down everything – like maps, puzzle answers, and important clues – in a notebook.

Even though today’s games often provide help, Yang still prefers to figure things out on his own, taking detailed notes and approaching each game like a puzzle to be solved.
After finishing the series, Yang shared that Resident Evil showed him that even when things are tough, having someone by your side can help you overcome any challenge.
Yang’s viewers have become a really important part of how he enjoys gaming. He’s said that it’s much more fun when kids in the chat play along with him than when he plays by himself.
This isn’t Yang’s first video game success – at 91 years old, she actually holds the Guinness World Record for being the oldest person to stream games.

Before becoming a gamer, Yang had a career in scientific research and engineering, focusing on oil and gas drilling in southern Sichuan. He retired from this work in 1996.
He didn’t start playing video games until after he retired, beginning with the older consoles. He quickly became a dedicated fan, especially of the Resident Evil series, and has been playing games on various consoles ever since, amassing a sizable collection of physical game copies.
With his streams gaining popularity, he intends to continue playing for the foreseeable future. He says he’ll keep playing as long as Capcom continues to update the game, noting that after 30 years, a few more years of waiting isn’t a problem.
