A standout moment in the current season of 9-1-1 involves a clever filming technique, according to one of the show’s actors. The popular series, which recently wrapped its eighth season featuring a major character death, is back. While the loss of Bobby Nash still impacts the team months after the “Contagion” episode, the creators understand the show can’t dwell on grief forever. Athena and the other characters will eventually need to find a way forward.
So far this season on 9-1-1, many episodes have focused on characters grappling with loss and death, woven into the show’s usual emergency situations. We’ve seen big moments like Athena and Hen going to space, and Eddie mourning the loss of his grandmother. But the midseason finale felt like a real turning point, signaling a fresh start for the series – especially with new developments involving Buck and Harry.
I was listening to the latest episode of The Aftermath Show with Corinne Massiah and Elijah Cooper, and Harry Grant shared something hilarious! Apparently, when he and Oliver Stark were filming all those training scenes for the Fire Academy, the production team actually gave him fake sweat! He was definitely doing all the exercises Buck put his character through, but he just doesn’t sweat much naturally, so they needed a little help to make it look like he was really pushing himself during the montage. You’ve gotta check out the clip they talked about!
The training sequence with Harry and Buck stood out because it perfectly captured the essence of 9-1-1. It highlighted just how challenging it is to become a firefighter in Los Angeles, emphasizing that everyone on the 118 team endured the same rigorous preparation. The sequence felt like a return to the show’s roots, almost serving as an early look into Harry’s journey toward becoming a firefighter.
This development also gives Buck a renewed sense of direction, which he needs after losing Bobby. Helping Bobby’s stepson is a positive way for him to spend his time. Plus, it introduces a new storyline that will likely shape future seasons of 9-1-1, and potentially beyond. With Harry beginning his journey toward becoming a firefighter, the show is setting the stage for a new generation of heroes. It makes you wonder what the show has planned for May’s future, too.
It seems Harry will be seeing Buck and the team from 9-1-1 more often. While this is a positive development for Cooper’s storyline, it makes you wonder how it will affect Buck’s relationships, especially since he and Eddie haven’t had much quality time together this season on the show.
