8BitDo’s FlipPad Brings Game Boy–Style Design to Mobile Gaming

8BitDo recently unveiled a new controller designed for smartphones that transforms your phone into something like a modern Game Boy. Called the FlipPad, the controller was showcased at CES 2026 and connects to your phone using the USB-C port. While specific details are limited, 8BitDo confirms it will work with both iPhones and Android phones.

The FlipPad’s design takes cues from classic Nintendo controllers. It features a traditional D-pad and twelve buttons, including a familiar four-button setup seen on many modern controllers. This makes it a great choice for playing retro games and emulators. 8BitDo plans to share more information before its release in Summer 2026.

Okay, so this isn’t new territory for them. I already own one of their 8BitDo Ultimate Mobile controllers – it works great with my Android and iPhone! And honestly, like their other controllers for PC and consoles, this one is packed with features for the price. It’s officially licensed too, which is always a good sign.

These game controllers feature precise Hall Effect sticks, comfortable face buttons, a classic D-pad, and handles designed for a good grip. You can personalize the controls using 8BitDo’s software, and they’re compatible with most smartphones, fitting devices between 100 and 170 millimeters long. The white Xbox-style controller costs $46, while the black version is available for the regular price of $50.

This controller easily connects to your devices wirelessly using Bluetooth. It works with a wide range of devices, including Android tablets, iPads, Macs, Apple TVs, and even the new Apple Vision Pro. A full charge gives you up to 13 hours of playtime thanks to its 300 mAh battery, according to 8BitDo.
