Forty years ago today, the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) was first sold in stores in New York City. This launch on October 18, 1985, is credited with bringing home video game consoles back to popularity in North America. To celebrate this important moment in gaming history, 8BitDo is releasing a special collection of NES-themed products over the next few months. The NES40 Collection includes a limited-edition Ultimate 2 Bluetooth Controller bundle, a portable wireless speaker, and a high-quality mechanical keyboard with 68 keys made from aluminum.
You can now pre-order the NES40 Collection! There’s a limited run of just 1,985 units for the Ultimate 2 Bluetooth Controller bundle, and the N40 Edition wireless keyboard is also a limited release. Plus, 8BitDo is launching the Retro Cube 2 Speaker – their first wireless speaker in ten years – which will be a regular part of their product line.

The N40 is essentially the same high-quality controller 8BitDo released earlier this year, with a few extra accessories. The Ultimate 2 connects wirelessly via 2.4GHz to Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and PC, and also supports Bluetooth for Switch 1/2, Android, Apple, and SteamOS. A full charge lasts up to 25 hours, and it boasts a fast 1,000MHz polling rate. It features premium TMR joysticks, two customizable back buttons, and extra shoulder buttons. You can choose between Hall Effect linear triggers and traditional microswitch buttons (with a rapid-fire option). Other features include motion controls, rumble, a Turbo button, and RGB lighting. Using 8BitDo’s Ultimate Software 2, you can personalize the controller and save up to three different profiles to switch between easily.

Interestingly, the Ultimate 2 N40 isn’t 8BitDo’s only 40th anniversary controller this year. Back in August, they teamed up with Xbox to launch a special edition Ultimate 3-Mode Controller celebrating Rare’s 40th anniversary. This controller comes in a striking royal blue and includes a matching charging dock – it’s also 8BitDo’s first wireless gamepad designed for Xbox. You can currently find the Rare 40th Anniversary Edition on sale at Amazon.
