88-year-old veteran gets over $600k in donations after viral TikTok

An 88-year-old man in Detroit, who still works full-time at a convenience store, is receiving a lot of help from people online. A TikTok user named itssozer shared his story and started a fundraiser that has already collected over $670,000.

I recently saw a really cool video from itssozer (Samuel Weidenhofer) where he introduced us to Ed Bambas, an Army veteran who’s still working full-time – eight-hour days, five days a week! It’s amazing to see his dedication.

Bambas explained that he needed to work because he lost his pension from General Motors when the company went bankrupt in 2012. This happened over a decade after he’d already retired in 1999.

Fundraiser for veteran passes $670k in donations

After the video became popular, Weidenhofer started a GoFundMe to help Bambas, a veteran who had faced many difficulties, find some comfort and stability.

He explained in the fundraiser’s description that meeting someone from Bambas was a deeply moving experience. He was particularly touched by a man who faced immense hardship – losing both his wife and his retirement savings – yet maintained a remarkable sense of quiet strength and resilience.

The fundraiser is designed to help Bambas with his daily expenses and medical bills, and according to Weidenhofer, 100% of the money raised will go directly to him. Currently, the campaign has exceeded $670,000 of its $750,000 goal, thanks to contributions from over 20,000 people.

Weidenhofer shared an update on the GoFundMe page, expressing their shock and gratitude for the incredible amount of money raised. They simply wrote, “Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
