I was so touched to hear this story! An incredible 81-year-old grandma started a YouTube channel playing Minecraft – can you believe it? – all to raise money for her grandson’s cancer treatment. The best part? It worked! He’s now cancer-free, and it’s just amazing to see how much love and dedication can achieve. It really warmed my heart!
Sue Jacquot started a YouTube channel in 2024 after discovering Minecraft. She wanted to use it to support her grandson during a difficult time.
Gramma Crackers, her online channel, has gained over 150,000 followers. She started by playing Minecraft, and her very first video quickly became popular, earning over 564,000 views.
She included a link to a GoFundMe for her grandson, Jack Self, who was diagnosed with sarcoma cancer. With each new video she posted, donations continued to pour in.
Grandson cancer-free after grandma raises money through Minecraft videos
Local12 reported that Jack and his grandma connected over the video game Minecraft while he was in the hospital. Everyone in the family was amazed by how quickly she learned to play!
I didn’t used to be interested in that, but my grandkids wanted me to get involved, so I did.
So, after a few months, I finally started my channel, and it blew up! I hit 100,000 followers in just one month, which was totally insane.
Austin, her grandson, said that donations to Jack’s GoFundMe page increased dramatically because of his grandmother’s videos.
“It was surreal,” he said. “There were donations from a dollar all the way up to $5,000.”
As of today, the GoFundMe campaign has raised $35,000, and Jack’s treatment was also supported by money Jacquot earned from her YouTube channel. This was largely thanks to the incredible support and encouragement from the gaming community.
“It’s the most incredible thing,” Jacquot beamed.
Video games are becoming increasingly popular with seniors. Recently, in December 2025, a 92-year-old woman amazed everyone by winning a Tekken 8 tournament designed for older players.
Skyrim Grandma, a popular YouTuber, built a large following creating content about The Elder Scrolls games. However, after a very long wait for the next game in the series, she stopped making videos on the topic.
