Players are once again exploring the world of Cyrodiil thanks to the recent remaster of the beloved RPG. This updated version of the classic game offers many options for customizing your character, letting you prepare them to overcome any obstacle.
Experimenting with light armor is a lot of fun in Oblivion Remastered, and while the best choice depends on your playstyle, some sets are particularly effective. From the appealing Saviour’s Hide to the expensive Amber set, Oblivion Remastered features a wide variety of light armor options with helpful magical enhancements.
Crusader’s Relics Set Is Strong for Oblivion’s Early-Game
If you’re new to Oblivion and prefer light armor, the Crusader’s Armor is a great choice. It’s strong enough to help you succeed early in the game, and you can get it relatively soon after the game begins. This armor, known as the “Crusaders’ Relics,” is earned by completing the Knights of the Nine questline, which comes with the game.
The Crusader light armor is a good choice for protecting against physical attacks early in the game, offering defense ratings from 2.5 to 6.25 at levels 1 through 6. However, it’s not very effective against magic, and you can’t wear it if your Infamy level is too high. Despite these drawbacks, it’s a useful armor set to use during the beginning of Oblivion Remastered.
Ayleid Crown of Nenalata Is a Notable Boon for Magic Users
For players who focus on magic, the Ayleid Crown of Nenalata is a great light armor helmet to look for. It provides two useful boosts and a special ability to counter enemy spellcasters. You can find this crown in Oblivion Remastered by completing the side quest “Secrets of the Ayleid”.
This crown is obtained by opening a special cask. When worn, it boosts your Alteration and Conjuration skills, increasing by up to 15 points at level 25. It also has a chance – up to 25% at level 25 – to reflect enemy spells back at whoever cast them.
Oblivion’s Black Hand Robe & Hood Sacrifices Defense for Stealth
Both new and returning fans of The Elder Scrolls, especially those who enjoy playing stealthy characters in Skyrim, will find the Black Hand Hood and Robes very useful. These items are also quite easy to get. Players can earn them by completing the “Following a Lead” quest, or simply find them while exploring.
Okay, so I’ve been hunting down this set in Oblivion Remastered, and let me tell you, it’s a bit of a treasure hunt! I found pieces hidden in a secret safe, inside Alval Ulvali’s place, and even locked away in a super-tough barrel at J’Ghasta’s house. It’s all about stealth, though – the enchantments boost things like Sneak, Archery, Blades, and Illusion. Honestly, it doesn’t give you much in the way of armor, so you really have to avoid getting into a straight-up fight. It’s a risky set, but if you like playing sneaky, it’s awesome!
Birthright of Astalon Is a Worthwhile Grind in Oblivion
The Birthright of Astalon is a great piece of light armor you can find in Oblivion Remastered, but it can be a bit of a challenge to get. You can only buy it from Claudette Perrick at the Gilded Carafe in the Market District of the Imperial City, and the effort required means it isn’t necessarily the best light armor choice overall.
It seems straightforward, but she won’t sell it until Mercantile skill reaches 50, and it’s quite expensive – over 16,000 gold. Despite the cost, it’s a powerful item for the later stages of the game. It has an armor rating of 11, plus enchantments that increase Agility by 5 points and Magicka by 50 points. This makes it particularly good for characters focused on magic, or Spellswords who combine magic with close-quarters fighting.
Saviour’s Hide Is an Excellent Piece of Daedric Armor
Players who enjoy light armor will be pleased to learn they can acquire a powerful chest piece in Oblivion Remastered. It’s considered one of the best, offering strong protection and a valuable magical effect. You can earn this armor by completing a quest for the Daedric Prince Hircine – simply offer a bear or wolf pelt at his shrine.
Once you’ve made the offering, you’ll need to defeat three minotaurs to get the unicorn horn. This is a powerful item you’ll find later in the game. When crafted with 100 Light Armor skill, it provides 12 armor. Even better, it’s enchanted with 25% Magic Resistance. Because it’s just a chest piece, you can still combine it with other light armor to add even more enchantments.
Apron of Adroitness Is an Underrated Oblivion Armor Set
The Apron of Adroitness, similar to the Black Hand gear from the Dark Brotherhood quest, isn’t typical light armor. While an apron seems like an unusual choice for protection in Oblivion Remastered, it’s surprisingly effective at higher levels and offers useful magical enhancements.
You get the Apron of Adroitness by finishing the side quest “A Brush with Death” in Cheydinhal. It’s most valuable for boosting your Intelligence and Agility – each can increase by up to 10 points at level 25. While it doesn’t look great, it offers surprisingly good protection.
Amber Armor Is Worth Upgrading Through Oblivion’s Late-Game
Okay, so if you’re playing Oblivion Remastered, the Amber armor set is seriously good – especially once you’ve maxed it out. It takes a bit of grinding, but trust me, getting the full Perfect Amber set is worth it. It gives you a really solid balance of protection and some nice enchantments. You unlock it by finishing the quest “The Antipodean Hammer.” Then, you gotta collect 16 pieces of Amber – including the shield – and bring them all to Dumag gro-Bonk, the Orc blacksmith at The Missing Pauldron in Bliss.
Getting a perfect set of Amber armor can be time-consuming. You have to collect Amber from the challenging Root Dungeons in the Shivering Isles, and also find the Matrices needed to upgrade your gear. This can be a real grind, but if you persevere, the armor’s high defense and bonuses to skills like Acrobatics, Agility, Speed, Intelligence, Hand-to-Hand, and Marksman can be incredibly powerful, helping you succeed even in the toughest parts of the game.
Morag Tong Armor Is Great for Oblivion Assassin Characters
Morag Tong armor focuses on different enchantments than most other armor sets. However, this light armor still provides useful benefits, especially for players who prefer a stealthy playstyle. You can get this armor by completing the “Unearthing Mehrunes Razor” side quest.
While exploring Sundercliff Village, the Hero of Kvatch can discover an imprisoned assassin. If you defeat him, you can take the Morag Tong light armor set. This armor is ideal for stealth-focused characters in Oblivion Remastered who also want good protection, offering armor ratings of 5 to 12.5 at level 20. It comes with helpful enchantments like Fortify Sneak, Marksman, Acrobatics, and Detect Life, among others.
