In late 2025, the number ’67’ became a popular internet meme, and Dictionary.com has surprisingly named it their word of the year.
Many internet slang terms have become common in everyday conversation. Some of the most recent examples, like ‘rizz,’ ‘skibidi,’ ‘brainrot,’ and ‘ratioed,’ originated on platforms like TikTok and Twitch.
We use many words and phrases daily, but not all of them officially become part of the dictionary. However, some terms do get included because they become very popular and have a noticeable effect on our culture.
Dictionary.com has named ’67’ its word of the year. The term originated from rapper Skrilla’s song ‘Doot Doot (67)’ and gained popularity from there.
67 wins 2025 word of the year award
The website reported a huge jump in searches for ’67’ starting in the summer of 2025. Interest has grown more than six times since June, and it doesn’t look like it will slow down anytime soon.
While most other two-digit numbers didn’t show any clear pattern during that time, 67 stood out. This suggests that 67 represents how quickly new ideas and words spread globally as younger generations become more connected and participate in worldwide discussions.
Dictionary.com pointed out that the phrase can be annoying and even suggests it’s a sign of mindless thinking.

In addition to being chosen, ’67’ surpassed other contenders like ‘Aura Farming,’ the TNT emoji, ‘Clanker,’ ‘Gen Z stare,’ and ‘Tariff’ to earn the title of word of the year.
This marks the second consecutive year that a popular internet trend has received the award, following “demure” winning in 2024.
Skrilla said the song that became a popular meme will actually be featured in Grand Theft Auto 6. He explained to Shane Gillis and Matt McCusker that he’ll be performing his own music as himself within the game.
