A young Girl Scout in Pittsburgh, just 6 years old, has become a cookie-selling superstar! She’s already sold almost 87,000 boxes this season and is hoping to sell even more before the fundraiser is over.
Pim Neill, a young Daisy Scout, started selling Girl Scout cookies on January 6th. She quickly became a top seller, moving 800 boxes in just three days, as reported by CBS News Pittsburgh. By mid-February, Pim had sold almost 87,000 boxes – far more than she needed to reach her goal of going to scout camp.
Pim’s father, Luke Anorak-Neill, says she’s incredibly determined, and the family is sharing her progress on social media. Now, Pim is aiming to sell 100,026 boxes, hoping to win prizes like a trip to Niagara Falls and raise money for her Girl Scout troop’s future projects.
From troop goals to national records
Pim started out trying to sell more boxes than the other kids in her kindergarten class of eleven. Once she sold 5,000 boxes, she set her sights on the state record. She quickly surpassed 10,000 boxes and then began aiming for the national record.
The family has been sharing Pim’s journey on Facebook and TikTok, posting regular updates and a tracker of her progress. Luke Anorak-Neill has explained that Pim actively seeks support by going door-to-door after school and on weekends, whenever the weather is nice. She also connects with people by phone, distributes flyers, and asks for orders at local events and church gatherings.
Besides advertising online, the family asked their relatives to buy cookies as gifts instead of traditional Christmas presents.
Overcoming early setbacks
Pim had wanted to be a Girl Scout since she was a little girl, but she had trouble joining a troop because of when she was born. Her dad told People magazine that she also faced some unfair challenges early on because of her disabilities, which he described as very difficult.
According to Anorak-Neill, when they first approached a cookie booth to inquire about joining a Girl Scout troop, one of the adult volunteers reacted very negatively. Before they had a chance to explain anything, the volunteer reportedly yelled at them in front of the other girls, saying that their child’s disabilities would be a hindrance to the troop and suggesting they look for activities specifically for children with disabilities. She didn’t want their child, Pim, to join her troop.
Even though things were difficult, Pim ultimately became a scout, and her father volunteered as a leader to help her.
Girl Scout Cookies are usually sold from January to April. One seller, Pim, announced on TikTok that her online shop will close on March 22nd, so customers have until then to order.
