Many fans think Warner Bros. has some great old DC superhero shows that deserve another look. With the conclusion of Peacemaker Season 2, DC Studios is moving ahead with lots of new TV shows and movies, building on the stories James Gunn and Peter Safran are creating. Beyond these new projects, there’s also a rich history of classic DC content for fans to enjoy.

Many older DC TV shows that fans would love to see return are currently available to watch online or buy. Even though Warner Bros. recently changed direction with its DC Universe plans, there’s still a lot of classic DC programming from years ago that people are hoping will be updated for today’s audiences. These series didn’t get much attention when they first aired, or were overshadowed by bigger hits, but they’ve continued to resonate with viewers long after they ended.

5 DC Shows That Should Be Brought Back

Swamp Thing

The series Swamp Thing premiered on May 31, 2019, with ten episodes available on DC Universe. The show follows a doctor who teams up with the heroic Swamp Thing to battle dangerous enemies in the Louisiana bayou. Crystal Reed starred as Dr. Abby Arcane, and Derek Mears played Swamp Thing. The cast also included Virginia Madsen, Andy Bean, Jennifer Beals, and Maria Sten, who is soon returning to television in a spin-off of Reacher.

Despite its brief run, the show was well-received by both fans and critics, who especially praised its visual effects and its successful take on the horror genre. It skillfully brought the work of comic writer Alan Moore to life, giving a relatively obscure character a compelling adaptation, and viewers appreciated how faithfully the series translated the comic’s story to television.

Matt Ryan was perfect as Constantine, and he was supported by a great cast, including Lucy Griffiths, Angélica Celaya, Charles Halford, and Harold Perrineau. It was a really compelling series!

Similar to Swamp Thing, Constantine explored mature and shadowy storylines throughout its single 13-episode season, while subtly connecting to the larger DC universe. The show skillfully blended supernatural elements and horror, and viewers were drawn in by its striking visuals and Matt Ryan’s strong performance as the lead.

The Batman (Show)

Similar to other shows on this list, Doom Patrol gained a dedicated fanbase over its four seasons thanks to its unique, often dark, themes. The show fully embraced its bizarre and unusual storyline, and it was praised for its positive representation of LGBTQIA+ characters and its ability to make even the most outlandish characters feel relatable. It remained delightfully strange and funny without ever becoming silly or losing control.

Green Lantern: The Animated Series

Warner Bros. Animation’s Green Lantern: The Animated Series aired for one season between late 2011 and early 2013. The show followed Hal Jordan and his mentor, Kilowog, as they protected the Frontier Space from the villainous Red Lantern Corps. Josh Keaton voiced Hal Jordan, and the cast also featured Kevin Michael Richardson as Kilowog, Grey DeLisle as Aya, Susanne Blakeslee as Sayd, and Sarah Douglas as Scar.

The Green Lantern series brought excellent writing and strong character development to the table, especially for Hal Jordan and key supporting heroes alongside him. The space-opera-style story also played well in animation, and its serious themes allowed adults and children alike to gravitate toward the plot.
