Shows like Game of Thrones and The Witcher really demonstrate why – those epic battles, amazing creatures, and that whole medieval vibe just work when you have the time to really build them out over a whole season, or even several. It’s just a fantastic genre to get lost in.

Many fantasy shows become popular and well-known, but others don’t get the attention they deserve. Some fantastic shows were cancelled before their time, or were simply missed by most viewers. These hidden gems are worth checking out—you won’t be disappointed if you start watching them now.

Galavant Is an Easy-to-Binge Musical Extravaganza

If you’re looking for something truly unique, check out Galavant. This hidden gem of a show on ABC playfully pokes fun at fantasy stories – and it does so through song! The music was even written by Alan Menken, the famous composer behind many classic Disney films. The show follows the adventures of the hero, Gary Galavant (played by Joshua Sasse), as he tries to rescue his beloved from the villainous King Richard (Timothy Omundson). It ran for two seasons.

This show is a fun watch, with surprisingly memorable songs that make it stand out. Viewers will quickly become attached to the lovable characters, each with compelling and unexpected storylines. It tells a really intricate and gripping story over five seasons, and I found myself completely invested in the characters. You’ll watch some of them really come into their own, while others… well, let’s just say their journeys aren’t always happy ones.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Revitalizes the Game of Thrones Franchise

The newest installment in the Game of Thrones universe, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, is being hailed as a standout title. Set roughly a century before the original series, it centers on Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey), a low-ranking knight, and his young apprentice, Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell). The story takes an unexpected twist when Duncan learns that Egg is secretly Prince Aegon Targaryen, a member of the royal family.

Viewers disappointed by the ending of Game of Thrones might be hesitant to watch the prequel due to its connection to the original series. However, dismissing it would be a real shame. As a huge fan of mythology and adventure, I was really excited about Percy Jackson & the Olympians on Disney+. It’s based on the books, and it’s awesome seeing all these gods and monsters brought to life in our modern world. The show follows young Percy Jackson, played by Walker Scobell, as he discovers he’s actually the son of Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea (played by Toby Stephens!). He’s quickly thrown into a really dangerous quest – basically, he has to prevent a war between the gods, which then leads him towards an even bigger, more dangerous problem. It’s a wild ride!

Okay, let me tell you, if you’re a fan of the Percy Jackson books, you’re going to love this show. It’s a genuinely fun adventure – seriously, I was laughing out loud a lot – but it also has a surprising amount of heart. The young actors are fantastic, and they’re really setting the stage for what could be the next big fantasy series. They’ve covered the first two books so far, and the show is already building a huge fanbase, and I can only see that growing from here!
