Okay, let me tell you, Bottoms is shaping up to be one of those movies we’ll be talking about for years. But if you’re already a fan and looking for something similar, there are definitely other films that hit those same notes. This 2023 comedy, brilliantly written by Rachel Sennott and director Emma Seligman, centers on a group of high school girls who decide to start a fight club. The whole thing kicks off when two outsiders, Josie (Ayo Edebiri) and PJ (Sennott herself), casually lie about having spent time in juvenile detention…and even claiming they took someone down while they were there!
The comedy Bottoms is a wild and over-the-top romantic comedy packed with both sexual content and violence, alongside the film’s unique brand of humor – everything from long, rambling speeches to slapstick physical gags. The movie features a strong cast, including Nicholas Galitzine and a surprisingly funny performance by Marshawn Lynch. But if you enjoy Bottoms and are looking for something similar to watch afterward, there are plenty of great TV shows to choose from.
Adults
2025-Present
FX’s new series, Adults, is quickly becoming a fan favorite and is being hailed by some as the best original show since The Bear debuted in 2022. The show centers around five friends – Samir, Billie, Issa, Anton, and Paul – who are navigating life while living together in Samir’s childhood home.
At the heart of the show Adults are the strong friendships between the characters, which fuel the main storylines – like helping Paul Baker find a place to live and trying to get Anton a relationship. But what really makes the comedy work is that each character also has their own personal struggles and growth, adding to the show’s believable and complex feel.
Similar to the movie Bottoms, the series Adults isn’t going to appeal to all viewers. It uses awkward, uncomfortable humor, features characters who make questionable choices, and exaggerates aspects of Gen Z culture. However, those are precisely the things many people enjoy about it. Adults might make you cringe at times, but its observations about life feel very real.
The Sex Lives of College Girls
2021-2025
MovieStillsDB
The show The Sex Lives of College Girls quickly became popular, largely due to its relatable and diverse characters. Reneé Rapp’s portrayal of Leighton was a fan favorite, and although the character left the show at the start of season three, her story of self-discovery and embracing her sexuality was a major reason why the show received so much praise.
I love watching The Sex Lives of College Girls because it really captures what it’s like when you first meet your roommates in college and realize you don’t have much in common. But what’s so great is that Bela, Kimberly, Whitney, and Kacey—even though they’re all so different from each other—become close friends anyway. It’s so relatable seeing them build a bond despite their different backgrounds and personalities.
The movie features a quirky and diverse group of characters, much like the film Bottoms, which exaggerates familiar high school stereotypes for laughs. What really stands out is how each character’s unique journey of self-discovery ultimately comes together to create a touching portrayal of growing up.
I Love LA
2025-Present

Rachel Sennott started acting in 2018, but she became a global star with the film Bottoms. This success led to her creating and starring in I Love LA, HBO’s popular new comedy series. The show follows Maia, Sennott’s character, and her reconnection with a friend, Tallulah (Odessa A’zion), who moves to Los Angeles, leading to some unexpected adventures.
If you enjoyed Bottoms, you’ll likely love I Love LA, which showcases Rachel Sennott’s signature comedic style. The film is even more fun with an appearance by Ayo Edebiri, making it something of a reunion for the two stars. I Love LA explores the real meaning of ambition – from superficial characters to the realistically flawed Dylan (Josh Hutcherson) – all set against the fast-paced world of online content creation.
Since Sennott is involved in writing, producing, acting, and created I Love LA, the show shares a similar energy with some of the funniest parts of Bottoms. However, Ayo Edebiri’s signature style isn’t really felt outside of her brief appearance, which might be a letdown for dedicated Bottoms fans.
Overcompensating
2025-Present

Look, I’ve seen a lot of streaming shows, and let me tell you, Overcompensating is a standout. Even after just one season, it’s easily one of the best original comedies Prime Video has put out in years. The show, starring and created by Benito Skinner (playing a character very much based on himself, Benny), perfectly captures that awkward, slightly terrifying first year of college and the desperate need to find your place.
Benny and Carmen (played by Wally Baram) unexpectedly become close friends after a brief romantic encounter goes wrong. They quickly realize they share deep insecurities: Carmen feels like an outsider at school parties, and Benny is struggling to accept his sexuality, feeling pressured to fit in with his friends and family.
The movie Bottoms tackles relatable themes like sexuality, unexpected friendships, and the harsh realities of being a teenager, all while offering a broader critique of society. While Overcompensating might not be quite as wild as the intensely energetic girls in Bottoms, it still delivers plenty of chaotic fun for viewers.
Sex Education
2019-2023
MovieStillsDB
Over its four seasons, Sex Education on Netflix skillfully portrayed numerous scenes exploring teenage sexuality. The show honestly addressed important topics like body image, different sexual orientations, and the shame often associated with sex, as well as societal expectations based on gender. While very different characters, Otis (Asa Butterfield) and Eric (Ncuti Gatwa) are both compelling protagonists.
While both Bottoms and Sex Education explore important themes, they do so in different ways. Sex Education is primarily a drama that uses humor, whereas Bottoms is a comedy with more serious undertones. If you’ve just finished watching Bottoms, Sex Education might offer a nice shift in tone.
