The Conjuring: Last Rites
Michael Chaves, 135 minutes

Despite receiving negative reviews, the latest film featuring Ed and Lorraine Warren (played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) became a major box office hit this year, earning nearly half a billion dollars globally – more than any other movie in the series. Based on the true story of the Smurl haunting from the 1970s and 80s, the film’s success demonstrates the enduring popularity of this franchise.
Freakier Friday
Nisha Ganatra, 111 minutes

Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan teamed up again after 22 years – this time for a new *Freaky Friday* movie! The sequel takes the body-swapping fun to the next level, with Curtis and Lohan’s characters switching places not just with each other, but also with Lohan’s daughter and future stepdaughter. It’s delightfully chaotic and silly, and should appeal to fans of the original movies.
HIM
Justin Tipping, 96 minutes

Okay, so usually I don’t talk about total flops, but this one disappeared from theaters so fast, I figured maybe some of you wanted to see it and just missed the chance. It’s called *HIM*, and Jordan Peele produced it. It’s about a football player trying to become the league’s MVP, getting coached by a really strange veteran played by Damon Wayans. Everyone pretty much trashed it, and it didn’t do well in theaters, but hey, it *is* spooky season, and football is on, so it might be worth checking out if you’re bored.

The Long Walk
Francis Lawrence, 108 minutes
https://youtube.com/watch?v=watch?v=vAtUHeMQ1F8
For decades, filmmakers have been trying to adapt Richard Bachman (also known as Stephen King)’s 1979 novel, *The Long Walk*, and the finished film may have been worth the effort. The movie, about a televised competition where young men must maintain a three-mile-per-hour walking pace or face death, has been praised by critics and well-received by audiences. The last contestant still walking wins everything. It’s a gripping and relevant story, and stands out as one of the year’s best films in its genre.
