3 Ways DC’s Snyderverse Could Come Back If Netflix & Warner Deal Happens

As a huge movie fan, I’ve been following the talk about whether Zack Snyder’s vision – what people call the ‘Snyderverse’ – could ever come back to DC. It could happen, but a lot would need to fall into place. If it did, I think there are three possible paths DC could take, but honestly, only one of them feels right. Snyder’s DC films were definitely polarizing – some people loved them, others didn’t – but he built a really dedicated fanbase over the years, and that’s something DC shouldn’t ignore.

Thanks to dedicated fans, Zack Snyder’s original vision for Justice League finally came out in 2021, after Joss Whedon finished the film in 2017. Now, after years of fans asking Netflix to revive Snyder’s cinematic universe, there’s a real possibility it could actually happen.

Netflix is considering a purchase of Warner Bros. Discovery, the company that owns DC Comics. If they were to acquire it, this could potentially revive the ‘Snyderverse’ film universe.

New Live-Action Justice League Movies

One possibility, and what many Zack Snyder fans have been hoping for, is a continuation of the ‘Snyderverse’ with sequels to his Justice League movies, completing his planned trilogy. However, considering the current direction of the DC Universe under James Gunn and DC Studios, this outcome appears improbable.

As a huge DC fan, I’ve been thinking about where the Snyderverse could realistically continue if it ever came back. Honestly, Netflix seems like the most likely place. It would probably mean any new, live-action movies set in that universe would be Netflix Originals. Zack Snyder and Netflix have a solid history – they’ve already made a few films together – so it makes sense. The only real hurdle is that Snyder’s projects tend to be pretty expensive, and Netflix might be hesitant to commit to those kinds of budgets.

A Live-Action Snyderverse Limited Series

Another possibility for reviving the DC Snyderverse is a transition from movies to a TV series. Zack Snyder’s vision would be perfect for a standalone, limited-run series exploring an alternate DC universe. Netflix has a proven track record of creating successful, high-budget event series, as demonstrated by shows like Stranger Things, The Witcher, and The Sandman.

A limited series on Netflix would be an ideal way to continue Zack Snyder’s vision for the Justice League. Rather than attempting a movie trilogy, he could tell the story across two seasons, adapting his planned sequels. This approach is already familiar, as Zack Snyder’s Justice League was nearly released as a four-part series on HBO Max.

Two Animated Justice League Movies

If Netflix were to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery and bring back the Zack Snyder-related DC stories, the most probable path would be through animated projects. Considering the mixed reception and recent box office struggles of the main DC movie universe, a live-action revival doesn’t seem likely.

Rather than competing directly, Netflix could allow James Gunn’s DC Universe to remain the primary focus for DC films, while Zack Snyder’s vision could continue as a separate series of animated movies. DC frequently creates animated stories that aren’t connected to its live-action films—the recently finished Tomorrowverse is a good example, and a new four-part Batman: Knightfall movie series has also been announced.

Zack Snyder has expressed interest in finishing his DC Universe plans as an animated series. He told Empire magazine (as reported by @DCFilmNews on Twitter) that he’d “absolutely” enjoy that, calling it “fun” and “cool.” Whether this will actually happen is still uncertain, but the chances of seeing the “Snyderverse” return are higher than ever before.
