If you’re not heading to the movie theater this weekend, Prime Video has a great lineup of films you can enjoy at home. This week, I checked out two new additions to the streaming service, including a new original film that’s sure to entertain.
Then there’s this huge, fun action movie – perfect for a family night with plenty of popcorn! And as the holidays are just around the corner, I think wrapping up the weekend on Prime Video with a classic Christmas film feels just right. It really gets you in the festive spirit!
3. Merv (2025)
The new Prime Video series, Merv, features a pairing of popular actors. Zooey Deschanel, known from New Girl, and Charlie Cox, from Daredevil: Born Again, play a divorced couple who reconnect when their dog, Merv, becomes sad after their split.
The film follows Russ as he travels to Florida with Merv, where Anna unexpectedly shows up. Throughout the road trip, both the dog and the couple begin to heal and rediscover their happiness. Ultimately, ‘Merv’ is a funny and touching movie with a sweet love story at its heart.
2. Transformers: The Last Knight (2017)
Transformers: The Last Knight became available on Prime Video on December 9th. While it’s not the most popular movie in the Transformers series, I think it’s unfairly criticized. It’s a fun action film that takes some interesting risks with the established Transformers storyline, making it a surprisingly fresh installment in the franchise.
I absolutely loved the idea of the Transformers crossing paths with Merlin, the legendary wizard from King Arthur’s stories! Like all the Michael Bay Transformers movies, this one is packed with stunning visuals, exciting action, and plenty of explosions, so it’s never boring. Transformers: The Last Knight really leans into its historical connections – Bumblebee even fights Nazis! Honestly, it’s a wildly entertaining ride – what more could you ask for?
1. How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)
As Christmas nears, a beloved classic deserves a spot on this list: How the Grinch Stole Christmas. It showcases one of Jim Carrey’s most memorable performances – and that’s high praise! The Grinch himself is a captivating character who undergoes a surprisingly heartwarming transformation throughout the movie.
This movie is a great choice for families, beautifully capturing the true spirit of Christmas. It’s heartwarming to watch the Grinch, who starts out isolated and grumpy, gradually warm up thanks to the kindness of a young girl named Cindy Lou. Like James Gunn recently pointed out about Superman, maybe kindness is the most rebellious thing we can do, and this movie, available on Prime Video, really emphasizes that message.
