Prime Video has a lot of excellent movies available this week, but a few really shine. As one of the first major streaming services, Prime Video quickly became a competitor to platforms like Netflix. Its huge selection of titles means you can find almost any movie you’re looking for easily.
Prime Video has a huge library of older movies and shows, and they’re also creating their own original content. With so many options, it can be hard to pick something to watch. Luckily, there are a few standout films on Prime Video that are definitely worth checking out first.
3. Overlord (2018)
It’s rare to find a movie that truly surprises audiences, but Overlord definitely delivers. The film follows American paratroopers who land in enemy territory during World War II and unexpectedly encounter an army of zombie soldiers. Many action horror movies struggle to successfully blend both genres, but Overlord manages to strike a perfect balance.
The initial war scenes are thrilling and lead nicely into the rest of the movie. Once the zombies appear, things really pick up and become wildly entertaining. While not particularly frightening, Overlord feels like a throwback to classic, low-budget B-movies, but with a fresh and improved take on the formula.
2. About A Boy (2002)
Nick Hornby, the author of High Fidelity, created About a Boy, a truly memorable film from the 2000s that you can watch again and again. It tells the story of a carefree man in his thirties who forms an unusual friendship with a twelve-year-old boy, and how they both learn valuable lessons about life and maturity. The movie is also notable as one of Nicholas Hoult’s first roles and is a perfect blend of drama and comedy.
What makes ‘About a Boy’ so enjoyable is the genuine connection between the characters, balanced with just enough dramatic tension to keep you invested. While it deals with serious themes, it ultimately feels like a cozy, feel-good movie. It’s a standout performance for Hugh Grant and has aged remarkably well compared to many films from the early 2000s.
1. Gladiator II (2024)
Nearly 25 years after the original film, Ridley Scott directed the highly anticipated sequel to Gladiator. This time, the story follows the son of Maximus as he seeks revenge on Rome, potentially throwing the empire into chaos. The new movie features a talented cast that both pays tribute to the first film and brings fresh elements to the story.
Wow, the action in Gladiator II is just massive and over-the-top – everything feels so epic! It definitely takes some liberties with what actually happened, but honestly, it doesn’t matter. It’s a totally exhilarating movie! And Prime Video has a lot of new stuff, but this Gladiator sequel is on another level. It’s a real blockbuster and just makes any movie night feel complete.
