Prime Video is offering a great selection of movies in December, and I’ve found the perfect one to kick off the holiday season. Original movies on Prime Video tend to be very popular – just look at the recent success of Playdate, starring Alan Ritchson from Reacher. Following that trend, I recommend starting with a new Christmas movie.
While Christmas content is available, Prime Video offers much more. This month, a beloved romantic comedy has been added to the service – it’s a great pairing with our top pick! And as the week goes on, a suspenseful murder mystery will offer a change of pace and keep you on the edge of your seat.
3. Oh. What. Fun. (2025)
The new Prime Video original movie, Oh. What. Fun., premieres on December 3rd. Starring Michelle Pfeiffer as Claire Clauster, the film centers on a woman who meticulously plans perfect Christmas celebrations for her lively, but often disorganized, family. But things take an unexpected turn when she’s accidentally left behind at home during one of their holiday events.
This funny movie tells the story of Claire’s cross-country journey as she figures out what Christmas—and life—really means, all while her family confronts their past actions and how they’ve treated her. Featuring a fantastic cast including Felicity Jones, Chloë Grace Moretz, Dominic Sessa, Danielle Brooks, Denis Leary, and others, it’s a delightful holiday film.
2. Notting Hill (1999)
If you’re looking for something cheerful, Notting Hill is a great recent addition to Prime Video. I think Hugh Grant is the king of romantic comedies. While there are plenty of other talented actors in the genre, he has a special ability to make every character instantly likable and easy to support, and that really shines through in this feel-good movie.
Combining Julia Roberts’ captivating charm with a sweet and funny story gives us Notting Hill, a perfect example of instant chemistry. Hugh Grant is utterly endearing as a bookshop owner who falls for a famous actress, despite their very different lives. The movie is genuinely funny, the connection between the characters is electric, and the story is both sincere and heartwarming.
1. A Haunting in Venice (2023)
Finally, shifting gears from lighter fare, this darker murder mystery offers Prime Video viewers a completely different emotional experience. With Netflix about to release the next installment in the Knives Out series, now is a great time for fans of the genre to discover this thrilling adaptation of an Agatha Christie story.
I just finished watching A Haunting in Venice, and it’s the newest movie featuring Kenneth Branagh as Hercule Poirot! It’s so interesting to see Poirot pulled out of retirement to investigate a mystery that feels a little… supernatural. It’s not exactly a scary movie, but it’s definitely a thrilling murder mystery with a spooky vibe, and I enjoyed watching it on Prime Video.
