Looking for something to watch on Netflix this week? Here are three great movies currently available. Netflix really anticipated the shift to online entertainment, and quickly transformed from a DVD rental company into the leading streaming service we know today.
Netflix has a huge and carefully chosen selection of both classic and original movies, giving you almost unlimited choices. However, this can sometimes make it hard to decide what to watch. Luckily, some movies really rise to the top this week, making your decision easier.
3. Mrs. Doubtfire (1993)
Robin Williams was a truly unique comedic actor, and Mrs. Doubtfire is considered one of his greatest movies. In it, he plays a dad who disguises himself as a British nanny just to spend time with his children. The film is funny and silly, but also genuinely touching, making it a joy to watch again and again.
Robin Williams is fantastic playing two roles, and much of the movie’s comedy comes from him trying to maintain the disguise. But Mrs. Doubtfire also offers valuable lessons about family, particularly the challenges faced by families going through divorce. You can currently watch this ’90s favorite on Netflix – it’s a great time to revisit it or introduce it to a new generation.
2. Dr. No (1962)
The James Bond series began with Dr. No, and you can now watch it on Netflix. The film follows 007 as he’s sent on a mission to stop the villainous Dr. No from carrying out his plans for global control. What’s remarkable about Dr. No is how complete it feels – it already established all the key ingredients that would become famous throughout the Bond films.
Sean Connery is fantastic as James Bond, and the action is surprisingly thrilling even after almost 65 years. While other Bond movies are more famous, Dr. No really deserves recognition. It often gets overlooked in favor of films like From Russia with Love or Goldfinger, but it’s still a true classic.
1. Blue Moon (2025)
Despite a quiet release in 2025, the film Blue Moon has earned two Academy Award nominations. It tells the story of Lorenz Hart, the songwriting partner of Richard Rodgers, and focuses on his struggles with fame and love during the opening night of Oklahoma!. Ethan Hawke gives a remarkable performance, completely embodying the heartbroken lyricist.
Despite flying under the radar during awards season, Blue Moon is a truly captivating film. Director Richard Linklater strikes a perfect balance between sophistication and simplicity, seamlessly blending humor and heartfelt moments. It’s a standout release currently available on Netflix, but don’t wait too long – it will be leaving the platform in about 18 months.
