Midwest Games and Moth Atlas have revealed that their 2D Western Soulslike game, Tombwater, will release on PC (via Steam) on March 31st. The game was initially planned for a November 2025 launch, but the developers decided to delay it to add more content and challenges.
The Steam demo for the game has been improved with new features, including a stagger system, accessibility settings, and adjustments to combat to make it more balanced.

If you haven’t seen it yet, Midwest Games recently revealed the game’s seven initial classes in a new gameplay trailer.
I’m so excited for the Steam Next Fest! Midwest Games and the creators of Tombwater, Max Mraz and Jake Wagner from Moth Atlas, just dropped an updated demo and announced the game is coming out on PC March 31st! As a fan of classic Zelda and Bloodborne, this 2D Western Soulslike looks incredible. It seems like you play as someone trying to uncover a town’s dark secrets, and the people who live there really don’t want you to!
Tombwater is a challenging game, but those brave enough to play can expect around 20 hours of gameplay. You’ll have a choice of seven different character classes, over 50 weapons (both guns and melee), and more than 20 spells. Explore a vast world and face terrifying creatures!
In the Tombwater demo, players will face terrifying monsters and bosses as they search for a missing friend in a town consumed by madness. Strange whispers from abandoned mines beneath the town are driving everything insane, and the longer players stay, the closer they get to losing their minds. Careful planning and managing your supplies are key to surviving each fight – you’ll have a variety of weapons to choose from, and having the right gear can mean the difference between victory and defeat.
Here are some notable updates included in the new Tombwater demo:
- New Accessibility Options: Designed for those who don’t like the “runback” aspects of soulslikes and prefer a more linear experience, these new options give players control over how difficult they want their descent into madness to be. A small mercy granted in a merciless world.
- Combat Balancing and Updates: Along with improvements to combat balancing, the updated demo also adds new gameplay mechanics like the “stagger” combat mechanic, an added “look ahead” camera option, and new items in the shop.
I’m so excited for Tombwater! It’s coming to PC on Steam March 31st. You can wishlist it now, and even better, they’re having a demo during Steam Next Fest so you can check it out and see if you’re brave enough to explore this town that’s gone totally mad!
