28 Years Later star reveals brutal Alpha Samson scene that felt “too far”

I was so impressed with Chi Lewis-Parry’s performance as the infected in 28 Years Later – seriously, they were terrifying! But apparently, even they found one scene particularly challenging to film, and it wasn’t even the one in The Bone Temple, which is wild to me!

Both “28 Years Later” and “The Bone Temple” were filmed at the same time, with Nia DaCosta directing the sequel after Danny Boyle directed the first film. The original movie showed that the infected people were changing, and the Alphas are now the most dangerous of them.

Similar to the original film 28 Days Later, the real danger in The Bone Temple comes from other people. Spike (Alfie Williams) will quickly discover this when he encounters Jimmy Crystal (Jack O’Connell) and his group.

Wow, everyone’s saying this new sequel is seriously intense – the most brutal one in the whole series! But even with all the scary stuff, there’s one scene in ’28 Years Later’ that still gives me chills just thinking about it, according to Lewis-Parry.

28 Years Later scene was too realistic for Chi Lewis-Parry

Before The Bone Temple came out, TopMob interviewed Williams and Lewis-Parry, and I was really curious to hear if they ever had moments while filming where they thought things were getting a little too intense. That’s what TopMob asked them, basically.

The actor, known for his role in Samson, mentioned a strange experience on the set of ’28 Years Later.’ He wasn’t sure if it was related to the current topic, as it didn’t happen during filming of ‘The Bone Temple,’ but it involved an encounter with a deer.

In the movie 28 Years Later, Spike and Jamie (played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson) find a badly injured deer while they’re in the woods, which serves as a disturbing early sign of trouble.

In a flashback, we see Samson brutally kill an animal – his usual method involves ripping off its head and spine – and then displaying the carcass by impaling it on a tree. Meanwhile, other infected creatures scavenge what’s left.

Lewis-Parry found filming this scene difficult because he’s a sensitive person who loves animals, and he generally struggles with any content involving them.

There’s deer-related content in the film, but it’s not as graphic as some might expect. The director, Williams, explained he wanted to show the consequences of the events, admitting he was ‘being a bit cruel’ in how he depicted them.

Despite the unsettling nature of the display, Lewis-Parry commended John Nolan Studio for the remarkably lifelike deer and its carcass. He noted that the studio’s work was so convincing, it was difficult to believe it wasn’t real.

It felt very authentic, especially since I was wearing contact lenses which made everything blurry and distorted. The way it happened just seemed natural and believable.

Lewis-Parry then quipped, “I would never do that to a deer, just to make that clear.”

The highly anticipated sequel, 28 Years Later, will arrive in UK cinemas on January 14, 2026, and in US theaters two days later on January 16. We’ve also got a detailed look at the infected creatures in the film, plus a preview of other scary movies coming out in 2026 that we’re excited about.
