27 Years Later, This Naruto Plot Hole Still Makes No Sense

I still remember when Naruto first came out in 1999 – it instantly became a favorite! But even after all these years, almost three decades now, there are definitely parts of the series that fans still debate. One thing that always bothered me was how Hiruzen Sarutobi, the Third Hokage, treated Naruto. He’s always shown as this wise, caring leader, so it just didn’t add up that he seemed to ignore Naruto when he really should have been supporting him.

The way Hiruzen treated Naruto when he was young reveals flaws in his leadership as Hokage. It was a mistake to leave such a young child to fend for himself. As Naruto struggled with loneliness, feeling ignored and isolated, Hiruzen’s actions deserve scrutiny, particularly considering his friendship with Naruto’s father, the Fourth Hokage Minato.

Hiruzen’s Excuse for Leaving Naruto Alone is Flimsy at Best

The story of Naruto centers around a young boy who grew up alone as an orphan. Every child needs connection and support, but Naruto had to fend for himself. After his parents, Minato and Kushina, died, Hiruzen Sarutobi took on the difficult task of raising him.

From a young age, Naruto was left to fend for himself, lacking the support and guidance of parents or other adults. While the Third Hokage, Hiruzen, was meant to protect him, he didn’t shield Naruto from the negativity of the village. Hiruzen made sure Naruto was physically safe, but Naruto’s emotional needs were largely ignored as he grew up.

Hiruzen thought it was best to leave Naruto to be raised separately, hoping to keep his parents a secret and prevent the villagers from discovering he contained the Nine-Tails. However, as fans of Naruto know, this plan backfired. Everyone in the village knew about Naruto’s secret except for Naruto himself, leading to him being ostracized and unfairly judged.

Being Hokage meant Hiruzen dealt with incredible stress, and he also had a duty to look after Naruto, as Minato and Kushina sacrificed everything to protect the village. If Hiruzen had taken a more active role in Naruto’s life, the boy might not have faced so much negativity and rejection. Despite knowing Naruto was being treated poorly by the village, Hiruzen didn’t intervene to help him.

The Systems Present in Konoha Completely Failed Naruto

Naruto is so popular because he went from being an outcast to becoming a powerful hero. He represents never giving up, especially considering his lonely childhood. Despite being mistreated and ignored by many in his village, he always chose to do what was right and never held onto bitterness.

Growing up, Naruto could be a real handful, I’ll admit! He was always loud, desperate for attention, and definitely wasn’t afraid to break the rules. But honestly, looking back, you can’t really blame a little kid who just wanted someone to care for him. It was his way of dealing with being so lonely. Thankfully, he was incredibly strong and became an amazing person, but we should never forget how tough his childhood actually was, and that doesn’t excuse the pain he went through.

Hiruzen wasn’t intentionally a bad guardian for Naruto. He was simply too detached to see Naruto was struggling. He likely didn’t understand that a child needs emotional support and care, not just food and shelter. He also didn’t step in to protect Naruto from the villagers who mistreated him.

Hiruzen’s distant approach unintentionally signaled to everyone that Naruto was vulnerable and on his own, making him a target for mistreatment. He essentially allowed the people of Konoha to neglect a child who desperately needed support and affection. The story of Naruto clearly demonstrates how the village’s system let him down, and because Hiruzen was a key part of that system, his lack of attention to Naruto is hard to justify.
