It’s been quite some time since Namco’s Ridge Racer series saw a fresh installment, leaving fans wondering if it will resurface. However, in the meantime, the vintage Ridge Racer 64, initially launched in February 2000, has been delightfully reintroduced on Nintendo Switch. The trailer below showcases that even after 25 years, Ridge Racer 64 retains its captivating arcade-like allure.
Unfortunately, it appears that you can’t buy this game independently. However, it was re-released today exclusively for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers. This subscription plan costs $50 per year for an individual and $80 for a family membership. In return, subscribers gain access to games from platforms like N64, Sega Genesis, and Game Boy Advance, as well as additional DLC for contemporary titles.
Ridge Racer 64 offers a Quick Play feature, ideal for those seeking a swift journey along the Revolution Novice track. For seasoned racers, there’s the Grand Prix mode where you can select from among nine diverse race circuits.
The game offers various modes like Car Attack, Time Attack, Battle Mode, Stage Mode, and Team Mode. Additionally, the trailer hints at the comeback of the multiplayer feature that can accommodate as many as four players simultaneously. This could be the ideal way to savor any Ridge Racer experience, given that the Arcade1Up’s Ridge Racer arcade cabinet is no longer in production.
Nintendo Switch Online has expanded its SNES library by adding Fatal Fury 2, Sutte Hakkun, and Super Ninja Boy to its collection. In the final months of last year, Nintendo Switch Online subscribers were also given access to several classic Sega games, such as ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron, Vectorman, and Mercs.
