It’s no surprise Roblox is so popular. It lets anyone create and play games, and it’s free to use. Plus, it runs on most devices, including phones, making it accessible to a lot of people, particularly kids and teens. But what’s really amazing is just how many people can play Roblox at the same time – the numbers are incredible!
Is this a cultural phenomenon or are we just all doomed?
Despite recent challenges – including a lawsuit, controversy with YouTubers, and even rumors of closure in September – Roblox remains popular. While games like Grow a Garden and Dress to Impress have been consistently successful, a new game has recently become incredibly popular, achieving a level of success many game developers would envy.
The game *Steal a Brainrot*, created by SpyderSammy and published by DoBig Studios, came out in May. As you might expect, it’s connected to the hugely popular “Italian Brainrot” trend that’s all over the internet right now. You’re seeing it everywhere – from characters and coloring books to games like *Roblox* – it’s hard to avoid!

The online game *Steal a Brainrot* has recently reached a massive peak of over 24 million concurrent players. That’s an incredible number, so here’s how it compares to other popular games:
- Silksong by Team Cherry peaked at just over 580,000 concurrent players on Steam. Console numbers aren’t public, but still, I’m sure nowhere near 24 million.
- Borderlands 4, which just came out last week, had around 300,000 concurrent players on Steam. Add consoles, but still, no eight-digit numbers there.
- Assassin’s Creed: Shadows barely cracked 60,000 on Steam.
I could talk about this all day. I realize it’s probably unfair to compare a *Roblox* game to something like *Silksong*, but the player numbers for *Steal a Brainrot* are absolutely incredible.
It’s easy to criticize Roblox, seeing it as overly focused on making money and creating a gaming environment we might not want for our children. However, even within Roblox, there are some surprisingly good and incredibly popular games. It’s hard to imagine any game surpassing the popularity of ‘Steal a Brainrot’ right now, though perhaps GTA VI could one day do so.
