A popular sandbox game is getting a futuristic makeover with a new mod that sets it in the year 3000. Players can now explore a futuristic New York City and cause chaos by crashing any vehicle they find.
When Futurama came out, the trend of turning cartoons into video games was already past its peak. The 1990s saw a lot of these adaptations – they were easy to make with popular, recognizable characters and family-friendly brands. Eventually, gamers started preferring games built specifically for the gaming world, instead of those based on movies or TV shows.
The Simpsons Hit & Run Has A Futurama Conversion Mod
Despite being released in 2003, The Simpsons Hit & Run remains incredibly popular with fans. While a sequel isn’t planned, a dedicated team called Slurm Team has created a complete makeover mod called Futurama: Hit & Run. This mod transforms the game’s setting from Springfield to New New York, faithfully recreating about a quarter of the iconic city from the Futurama show.
Currently, a mod called Futurama: Hit & Run is available as a demo. It includes a few story missions, four playable characters, six vehicles, and a completely new map. While still under development, players who own the PC version of The Simpsons: Hit & Run can download and try it out now.
Futurama: Hit & Run Is Impressive (Especially While Fans Wait For A Sequel)
A huge amount of effort has been put into the Futurama: Hit & Run project, featuring a brand new city to discover. Even though it’s currently just a demo, it shows a lot of promise as a complete game, as long as legal issues don’t stop its development. Hopefully, the buzz around this game will encourage someone to create a remastered version, remake, or sequel to The Simpsons: Hit & Run.
Players are eagerly waiting to revisit the game, and if Disney doesn’t offer a way to do so, fans will take matters into their own hands. Given that Hit & Run has always been seen as a different take on GTA, this new mode could be a great addition alongside the highly anticipated GTA 6.
