The upcoming conclusion of The Mandalorian & Grogu marks the end of a six-year story focused on Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his unwavering adherence to the Mandalorian Creed. Throughout The Mandalorian, it’s been shown that Din Djarin strictly follows the traditions of the Children of the Watch, a group that believes a Mandalorian must never remove their helmet in front of anyone else. Breaking this rule means being considered an outcast and losing their Mandalorian status, which is exactly what happened to Din Djarin at the beginning of Season 3.

The newest trailer for The Mandalorian & Grogu shows Din Djarin without his helmet, breaking a six-year pattern. The last time fans saw his face was in the Season 2 finale of The Mandalorian, “The Rescue,” on December 18, 2020, when he said goodbye to Grogu before Grogu began Jedi training with Luke Skywalker.

This is a big moment for The Mandalorian series, as Din Djarin is known for never taking off his helmet. However, the trailer suggests he’s forced to remove it this time, unlike previous times when he made the choice himself.

The trailer showed the Hutt twins taking Din Djarin’s helmet after he’s captured on Tatooine, suggesting the movie will feature intense and dangerous circumstances that leave Din especially vulnerable.

The reveal is intriguing because it seems Din Djarin will only remove his helmet in this one longer scene. However, the movie might be suggesting there are other times he’ll break his helmet rule to protect Grogu.

Although Din Djarin didn’t take off his helmet in Season 3 of The Mandalorian because of the storyline, the first two seasons included multiple memorable scenes where he did remove it, whether by choice or not.

In the first season finale of The Mandalorian, Din Djarin broke his strict rule about never removing his helmet when he did so in front of IG-11 after the droid was seriously damaged. Because IG-11 wasn’t a living creature, Din considered it an exception to his code.

In Season 2 of The Mandalorian, Din Djarin took off his helmet on two occasions. The more well-known instance was in the season finale, but he also removed it earlier in Chapter 15. He did so while pretending to be an Imperial officer with Migs Mayfeld, allowing them to infiltrate an Imperial base as part of their quest to rescue Grogu from Moff Gideon.

Jon Favreau directed The Mandalorian & Grogu, which continues the story of Din Djarin and Grogu as they work to wipe out the last of the Empire and help the New Republic. Pedro Pascal returns as the main character, and Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allen White join the Star Wars universe as new cast members.

The Mandalorian & Grogu premiered in theaters on May 22.

Din Djarin removing his helmet in The Mandalorian wasn’t about breaking his religious beliefs. With Season 3 largely excluding Pascal from on-screen appearances, it seems the upcoming The Mandalorian & Grogu will deliver on that promise. Pascal also discussed Din Djarin’s character development, suggesting he’s open to considering new perspectives and beliefs.

Although some viewers felt Din Djarin taking off his helmet weakened earlier themes of strict adherence to the Mandalorian code, it actually highlights his continued development as he prioritizes what’s best for both himself and Grogu, forging his own unique path.
