Recent news about the upcoming Spider-Man 4: Brand New Day movie has uncovered information about a villainous character that wasn’t ultimately used in the film. It appears two well-known actors were considered for the role but decided not to participate.
Anne Hathaway and Sarah Snook passed on Spider-Man: Brand New Day roles
Early discussions about the cast for Spider-Man 4, potentially titled “Brand New Day,” included Anne Hathaway and Sarah Snook as possibilities for a villain. While the filmmakers thought about having either actress play a female antagonist, they didn’t end up casting either of them in the movie.
Industry insider Jeff Sneider says there were credible rumors that Anne Hathaway and Sarah Snook both turned down roles in the project.
So, apparently when those two actors turned down the part, Marvel started thinking things over. According to Sneider, they basically wondered if they could just give Jean Grey a bigger role instead. It sounds like they had to change their plans a bit while they were making the movie!
These comments came up during early talks about the movie’s development and casting. It’s common for roles to change at this stage, depending on which actors are interested and available. As one insider explained, sometimes you need to consider what the actors want. If an actor isn’t connecting with a character or role, the filmmakers often make adjustments.
He added that the initial idea for the villain was an older woman, a concept that had been discussed before any actors were chosen. After several actresses were reportedly considered and passed over, the production team may have changed the character, possibly making the role smaller or recasting it with an older male actor, according to Sneider.
The upcoming Spider-Man 4 is still planned as part of the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe, specifically in Phase Six. Filming has finished, and the movie is currently in post-production. It’s common for casting and the script to be adjusted during this time, especially when working with a large cast and considering future Marvel films. The movie is currently scheduled to come out on July 31, 2026.
