Dr. Wu continues to release new toys inspired by characters from Hasbro and Takara, and plans for 2026 are even more ambitious. In addition to a popular Autobot from the original Generation 1 series, two figures will be based on lesser-known Decepticons from that same era.
A new line of toys from a third-party company includes the DW-E49 Side Slip, a figure based on the classic Autobot Sideswipe. They’ve also announced DW-E50 Plunder and DW-ES02 Trap Maker, representing lesser-known Decepticon characters. These figures are designed to be the same size as Micromaster toys, giving some of the more obscure characters from the original Transformers series a chance to shine alongside the popular ones.
Dr. Wu Rolls Out Sideswipe Alongside Toys for the Most Obscure G1 Decepticons

This toy reimagines the classic Sideswipe design as a smaller, Micromaster-sized figure. The robot mode closely resembles both the original toy and Sideswipe’s appearance in the animated series, including his signature shoulder-mounted rocket launcher. It transforms into a red Lamborghini Countach LP500S, though it’s not an officially licensed product.
Sideswipe wasn’t a central character in the original Transformers cartoon’s first two seasons, but he’s still a memorable figure from that time. Importantly, he appeared to survive the events of The Transformers: The Movie. Because of this, and the fact that his brother Sunstreaker shared a similar fate, Sideswipe has become a popular character in recent years as the franchise looks back at its history. This is reflected in the continued release of new Sideswipe toys, and similar attention from third-party manufacturers.
I’m really excited about this Dr. Wu figure! While Sideswipe is a pretty well-known Transformer, the Decepticon he comes with – DW-E50 Plunder – is a deep cut. Plunder is Dr. Wu’s take on Ransack, one of the “Deluxe Insecticons” from the original G1 series. Interestingly, Ransack and his crew were released as the Beetras line in Japan, while the other three main Insecticons had a different release and design approach.
Plunder/Ransack is a Transformer who changes from robot form into a robotic locust, but he doesn’t have any visible weapons in either mode. Meanwhile, DW-ES02 Trap Maker will be sold separately and is based on the lesser-known Decepticon character Battletrap from the original Transformers series. Like the classic Duocon design, Trap Maker combines two vehicles – a pickup camper resembling a Ford F-150 and an AH-64 Apache helicopter – to form his robot mode. In robot form, he can use both the helicopter’s gun and the truck’s double-barreled blaster.
In addition to the standard weapons, anyone who pre-orders the toy will receive a yellow, lightsaber-like weapon. A different version of the toy, called “Night Patrol” Trap Maker, has also been shown off – it’s black and dark blue with a red lightsaber instead of yellow. While we don’t know how much these figures will cost, both versions of Trap Maker are expected to be available in March. We’re still waiting to find out when the other figures will be released, but it’s likely that a Sunstreaker toy and another Deluxe Insecticon are also coming soon.
