Zack Snyder has been sharing behind-the-scenes content from his time working on DC movies, and recently posted the first picture of Henry Cavill wearing the iconic Superman suit famously worn by Christopher Reeve.
Interestingly, Henry Cavill wore Brandon Routh’s Superman suit during his audition for the lead role in Man of Steel. Seeing him in the suit helped Zack Snyder and studio executives decide he was the right person for the part.
Henry Cavill’s first Superman photo in Christopher Reeve’s suit
Zack Snyder recently posted a close-up photo on Instagram of Henry Cavill wearing the suit famously worn by Christopher Reeve.
Fifteen years ago today, I took the very first photo of Henry Cavill – the one that captured the moment before he became a legend as Superman. I shot it on my Nikon camera, as I remember.
This picture was released about a month after Snyder shared two other photos of Cavill wearing the suit made famous by Christopher Reeve. The first image shows Cavill standing on a platform, lit by the sun and casting a shadow. The second photo is a closer view of the same scene.
I was so thrilled when Henry Cavill was chosen to play Superman back in 2011! Seeing him first embody the character in ‘Man of Steel’ in 2013 was amazing. And then, just three years later, to see him face off against Ben Affleck’s Batman in ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ was a truly epic moment!
During the final battle, the Kryptonian hero teamed up with Batman and Wonder Woman to defeat Doomsday, ultimately giving his life to destroy the monster. After his death, Batman and Wonder Woman promised to create the Justice League and continue protecting the world in his memory.
Henry Cavill reprised his role as Superman in the 2017 film Justice League and Zack Snyder’s 2021 director’s cut, having been brought back to life by Batman and the other heroes. Initially wary of the team, he ultimately joined forces with them to defeat Steppenwolf and his invading army.
After the disappointing performance of the 2017 film Justice League, Henry Cavill’s future as the character was unclear. However, his return in a brief scene after the credits of 2022’s Black Adam eased those concerns. Cavill’s appearance generated a lot of enthusiasm, which he increased by hinting that it was just a preview of more to come.
The initial enthusiasm for Henry Cavill’s return as Superman faded when James Gunn and Peter Safran became the heads of DC Studios. Cavill announced he would no longer be playing the role after discussing their plans with them. Gunn ultimately decided to reboot the Superman franchise with David Corenswet as the new Superman within his broader DC Universe vision.
