On February 5th, Garden Grove police closed down DD Café after receiving reports of unlawful behavior. They arrested seventeen people, including the café’s owners.
The arrests happened shortly after a TikTok video showcasing the café became popular, bringing a lot of attention to the Orange County business.
The Garden Grove Police Department began investigating DD Café after getting reports of suspicious activity happening inside, according to a press release issued on February 5th.
According to Sergeant Nick Jensen, employees at this business were serving customers while wearing bikinis and very little clothing. The Los Angeles Times identified the establishment as a “bikini café.” Its Yelp page listed it as a coffee, juice, and smoothie shop, and featured pictures of employees in bikinis.
Jensen confirmed that the owners were among the 17 people arrested during the operation.
17 arrested after investigation into alleged code violations
After a TikTok video posted by Paulina Abena (@dosdaygirl) gained almost 2 million views in February, an investigation led to several arrests, as reported by CBS News.
In the video, Abena explained she found the café while looking for local coffee shops. She described being surprised to find the employees were not wearing clothes while she was fully dressed, and she talked about what the café’s name means and how she felt about the whole experience.
Garden Grove officials stated the café broke rules regarding public nudity and alcohol sales, as well as other city ordinances. Police confirmed to The Orange County Register that the business didn’t have a license to sell alcohol there.
Following the arrests, DD Café was labeled as being linked to illegal activities, forcing it to temporarily close until the issues were addressed. The owners were unavailable to provide a statement.
