Superhero movies are known for being wildly imaginative and unrealistic, and that’s often what makes them so enjoyable. They let us escape into worlds where anything is possible. While some viewers prefer more realistic films, one 2010 superhero movie stood out as a fan favorite. Now, after 15 years, it’s becoming available to watch again on a new streaming service.
The movie, which came out on April 16, 2010, started as a comic book series. It was first published by Marvel’s Icon Comics and later moved to Image Comics. Many fans consider it one of the most grounded and realistic superhero films ever made. The story follows a clumsy teenager who tries to become a real superhero, even though he doesn’t have any special abilities. While the idea seems straightforward, director Matthew Vaughn – who later directed X-Men films – transformed it into a thrilling and action-packed movie that quickly gained a dedicated following.
Inspired by his passion for comic books, teenager Dave Lizewski decides he wants to become a superhero, even though he doesn’t have any superpowers. He creates a costume, calls himself ‘Kick-Ass,’ and starts trying to fight crime. He teams up with the experienced vigilantes Big Daddy and Hit-Girl, and later meets another new hero named Red Mist. However, a dangerous mobster threatens to break their group apart.
‘Kick-Ass’ Is Still Just as Fun as It Was in 2010

Lionsgate
You know, even after all these years, I still enjoy Kick-Ass. It came out back in 2010, but it holds up surprisingly well! I think it’s because, at its core, it’s just a really charming story about a kid trying to be a hero, and you can’t help but cheer him on. Aaron Taylor-Johnson was perfect as Kick-Ass – he brought this great, awkward energy to the role. But honestly, Chloë Grace Moretz as Hit-Girl? She absolutely killed it. She was the standout, no question. It’s a shame the follow-up didn’t quite live up to the original, though.
Even though Kick-Ass occasionally feels a little old-fashioned with mentions of things like MySpace, don’t let that stop you from watching it. It’s a really enjoyable and surprisingly heartwarming tribute to superhero films, and Nicolas Cage gives a fantastic performance as Big Daddy. Definitely add it to your watchlist—it starts streaming on Peacock on November 1, 2025.
