As a hardcore fan of horror and suspenseful storytelling, I can’t help but feel my heart racing with anticipation as I delve into this tantalizing list of upcoming television shows. Having grown up with Stephen King’s chilling tales and the unforgettable It movies, Welcome to Derry is a series that has me absolutely giddy with excitement. The prospect of unraveling the origins of Pennywise the Clown, a character that has haunted my dreams for years, is almost too good to be true.

2024 captivated television viewers, and it appears that the trend will continue into 2025. In fact, an abundance of exciting new shows is on the horizon next year, which is why we’ve compiled a list of the upcoming series we can hardly wait to see.

Indeed, with numerous anticipated series arriving, such as a fresh Game of Thrones spinoff, thrilling new Netflix productions, and the comeback of fan favorites (Severance Season 2 and The Last of Us Part 2 in the same year – it seems too good to be true), one may wonder how we chose only 25 shows for the list. To clarify, we carefully selected these 25 shows that we believe will offer an unparalleled viewing experience in the coming months.

Essentially, our process isn’t something we openly share, but it primarily consists of assembling our most insightful team in a location that is off-limits to your existence. After spending approximately two weeks in seclusion for deliberation, our leader connects with the spirits of obsolete TV shows to finalize the list. However, if time is an issue, we can always work things out through emails. Regardless of the method, the task is successfully completed.

Before we dive in, let me clarify that these shows are listed based on their release dates, as none of us have watched them yet. And honestly, if there was a top show, I think we all know what it would be!

Missing You

  • Release date: January 1, 2025
  • Genre: Thriller
  • Cast: Rosalind Eleazar, Ashley Walters, Lenny Henry, Richard Armitage

The story revolves around Detective Kat Donovan who, over a dozen years since her fiance’s vanishing, rediscovers him on a dating platform, leading her to revisit old scars and hidden truths in the process.

We’re thrilled because: The multi-year deal between Harlan Coben and Netflix has proven both productive and enjoyable. While the quality can fluctuate, each series released, from Stay Close and The Stranger to Fool Me Once and Safe, has been like a page-turner on screen, making them ideal for marathon viewing during a tranquil afternoon. With Missing You being one of his upcoming books, we’re eagerly anticipating another gripping tale featuring rekindled romances, hidden secrets, and numerous surprises that suggest yet another hit could be added to Coben’s Netflix library.

Severance Season 2

  • Release date: January 17, 2025
  • Genre: Sci-fi
  • Cast: Adam Scott, Zach Cherry, Britt Lower, John Turturro, Tramell Tillman, Patricia Arquette

After the tumultuous events of Severance’s first season, I find myself, along with my gaming buddies, grappling with the ominous repercussions of meddling with the severance divide. This seemingly innocuous action has plunged us deeper into a tangled web of misfortune, potentially uncovering a far-reaching mystery that could shake the very foundations of our world.

Why we’re excited: Severance is easily the best TV Apple TV has ever produced – and it should be considered criminal to end on that cliffhanger and take this long to make Severance Season 2. Well, praise Kier because it’s nearly here, and I have questions; will Irving reunite with Burt, will Ms. Casey realize she’s Mark’s supposedly dead wife, and how will Helly R’s life change? Whatever happens, I’m ready to sever any and all arrangements to tune in every week.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man

  • Release date: January 29, 2025
  • Genre: Superhero, animated show
  • Cast: Hudson Thames, Colman Domingo, Eugene Byrd, Grace Song

In this animated series, we delve into the early days of Spider-Man’s life, set in a universe where Norman Osborn, rather than Tony Stark, mentored Peter Parker. Here, Spidey confronts familiar foes and encounters longtime friends as he navigates his web-slinging adventures.

What has us eager: Being a devoted admirer of the Spider-Man comics, I can hardly contain my anticipation for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. The series appears to be an enjoyable fusion of classic Spider-man tales by Ditko/Lee with more contemporary elements from authors such as Dan Slott and Howard Mackie. For those not deeply invested in Spider-Man lore, there are still plenty of other enticing aspects to look forward to, such as the presence of Daredevil and Doctor Strange. Furthermore, it seems we’ll be treated to a fresh interpretation of the best Spider-Man villain ever, Doctor Octopus!

The White Lotus Season 3

  • Release date: February 16, 2025
  • Genre: Drama
  • Cast: Carrie Coon, Walton Goggins, Aimee-Lee Wood, LISA, Natasha Rothwell

What it’s about: The third series of the hit hotel drama, The White Lotus Season 3 cast is taking up residence in Thailand… with deadly results.

What we’re looking forward to: I’ve found myself breaking into a dance to the theme song before starting to write this. For me, it’s undoubtedly the standout TV event of the year. Although Jennifer Coolidge may not return (maybe an evil twin?), Mike White’s exploration of human relationships in a confined setting is exceptional and he’s still the only one who can outshine his catastrophic second season. So, let’s see who’ll don the Peppa Pig mask this time around!

Suits L.A.

  • Release date: February 23, 2025
  • Genre: Drama
  • Cast: Stephen Amell, Josh McDermitt, Lex Scott Davis, Bryan Greenberg

Main Topic: Once a New York prosecutor, Ted Black transitions into being a lawyer in Los Angeles, only for his law firm to face a critical juncture. This predicament compels him to assume the role of the kind of attorney he’s long despised, as his past comes back to haunt him.

Why we’re excited: Suits took the walk-and-talk, whip-smart adrenaline of The West Wing and charged it with soap opera suspense (and preposterousness). Its success on Netflix paved the way for a new spinoff, with Aaron Korsh returning as showrunner – if that doesn’t get you Litt up, Gabriel Macht is returning as Harvey Specter for a few episodes. Life is like this, but I like this.

Daredevil: Born Again

  • Release date: March 4, 2025
  • Genre: Superhero/Action
  • Cast: Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Jon Bernthal, Wilson Bethel, Elden Henson

What it’s about: Matt Murdock is fighting for the little man through his law firm, while Wilson Fisk makes himself known as a political force in New York. Their paths collide, and it’s chaos.

We’re thrilled about this: This project has given us more challenges than I faced during my driving test, but finally, there’s a glimmer of hope. Among all the Netflix Marvel TV shows, Daredevil was unquestionably the most robust – so we have high expectations for Born Again. If they manage to reappear Carrie-Anne Moss as Jeri Hogarth in a brief role, it would be even more delightful.

Black Mirror Season 7

  • Release date: TBC
  • Genre: Sci-fi
  • Cast: Awkwafina, Emma Corrin, Paul Giamatti

In a Nutshell: The upcoming season of Black Mirror, an anthology series, delves into potential future issues. It consists of six fresh tales, one of which is a follow-up to “USS Callister”.

What makes us thrilled: Black Mirror, known for its chilling impact on viewers, could reach new heights with Season 7, boasting an impressive lineup of stars. Given the current preoccupation with AI and political unrest, this season might resonate deeply with audiences in a way that Black Mirror hasn’t for quite some time.

Good American Family

  • Release date: TBC
  • Genre: Drama
  • Cast: Ellen Pompeo, Mark Duplass, Imogen Faith Reid

This limited series is inspired by the real-life story of Natalia Grace, a Ukrainian orphan who was adopted by Kristine and Michael Barnett. The show will delve into the contentious events and enigmatic circumstances surrounding an altered age, a legal case, and an ongoing debate that remains heated to this very day.

What we’re looking forward to: Those who watched The Curious Case of Natalia Grace are likely to check out Good American Family, just to see what angle the story is presented from. Similar to Monsters Season 2 and The Staircase, the facts are vague and based on two contrasting narratives. Without a doubt, it’s an intriguing, complex true tale. If handled sensitively, the series could delve into the deeper issues hidden beneath the scandal.

Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

  • Release date: TBC Summer 2025
  • Genre: Fantasy
  • Cast: Peter Claffey, Dexter Sol Ansell, Finn Bennett, Bertie Carvel

In a time when the Targaryen dynasty is in power, a tall, noble yet innocent knight named Ser Duncan and his small, apprentice-like companion, Egg, traverse Westeros, forging both friendships and enmities with influential figures along their journey.

What we’re looking forward to: We’re disappointed that House of the Dragon Season 3 won’t air until 2026, but Knight of the Seven Kingdoms isn’t just a placeholder; it seems to be offering something fresh and unique within the Game of Thrones universe. The tone appears to be lighter and more humorous, yet still maintaining the allure of the original series. Additionally, George R.R. Martin has given it his approval, which speaks volumes.

Squid Game Season 3

  • Release date: TBC
  • Genre: Thriller
  • Cast: Lee Jung-jae

In the aftermath of Squid Game Season 2, the third and concluding episode will wrap up Seong Gi-hun’s tale, as he embarks on a quest for retribution against those responsible for orchestrating the lethal tournament.

Reason for our anticipation: Squid Game Season 1 truly left its mark during the pandemic, and deservedly so. From the storytelling, dialogue, unexpected twists, outstanding performances, social commentary, humor, to even the violence – every element was flawless. The final season, Season 3, promises to wrap up the story completely, concluding this twisted tale. Given the high-quality production thus far, it appears it will end with a dramatic finale. Let the games commence!

Stranger Things Season 5

  • Release date: TBC
  • Genre: Sci-fi/Horror
  • Cast: Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Sadie Sink

In the wake of Vecna’s assault, Eleven and her companions must devise a strategy to defeat this formidable foe permanently, thereby rescuing their hometown and sealing the gateway to the Upside Down forever.

What makes us thrilled: Indeed, it’s been a long wait for Stranger Things to conclude its story. Even though the buzz may not be as intense as before, there’s a sense of profound significance in wrapping up one of Netflix’s most iconic series. Given that Season 4 was its best in years, our expectations are sky-high for this blend of nostalgia and terror. Dive deeper into Stranger Things Season 5 here.

The Bear Season 4

  • Release date: TBC
  • Genre: Drama
  • Cast: Jeremy Allen White, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Ayo Edebiri

The restaurant’s future is uncertain, with the outcome of a single review playing a crucial role. Regardless of whether it’s a glowing recommendation or a scathing critique, there are stakes beyond what Carmy realizes: Sydney’s psychological state has reached its limit, and she might be considering leaving to work elsewhere.

Why we can’t wait: The Bear Season 3 was outstanding, yet it had a significant drawback: it seemed unfinished, leaving Carmy, Syd, Richie (and essentially everyone else) without any closure. The Bear Season 4 will undeniably round off the meal and undoubtedly enhance its precursor, as it serves up the series’ most crucial and possibly concluding dose of emotionally charged, far-reaching drama. Bon appétit!

The Last of Us Season 2

  • Release date: TBC
  • Genre: Horror
  • Cast: Bella Ramsey, Pedro Pascal, Kaitlyn Dever, Gabriel Luna, Catherine O’Hara

Five years following the incidents from the initial season, a chill has developed in Joel and Ellie’s bond in Jackson. Nonetheless, their actions lead them towards an encounter with a puzzling individual named Abby, who may hold significant secrets.

What we’re looking forward to: The Last of Us wasn’t just an exceptional video game adaptation; it was one of the top TV shows of the last ten years. If Season 2 stays true to the plot of Part II (arguably gaming’s most extraordinary, emotional tale), prepare for awe and astonishment – unless you’ve already been spoiled! Take this as a heads-up… and a hint at your anticipation.

The Madison

  • Release date: TBC
  • Genre: Drama
  • Cast: Michelle Pfeiffer, Patrick J. Adams, Matthew Fox

In my perspective: Stepping into the expansive world created by Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone, I find myself drawn to The Madison – a captivating tale about a distinguished New York family. After experiencing a profound personal loss, they seek refuge in the tranquil, ranch-filled landscapes of Montana, where they begin a new chapter in their lives.

Here’s one way of paraphrasing the given text:

Welcome to Derry

  • Release date: TBC
  • Genre: Horror
  • Cast: Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, Taylour Paige, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Bill Skarsgård

From my perspective, I can’t wait to dive into the untold tales of Derry, a town that serves as the chilling backdrop for the “It” movies. It’s exciting to speculate that this series might delve into the haunting origins of everyone’s favorite terrifying clown, Pennywise.

What makes us eager: Pennywise is an enigmatic monster whose past remains veiled, and ever since I left IT Chapter 1, I’ve been longing for more insights about him. I can hardly wait to delve deeper into the chilling tale of this malevolent, cannibalistic clown and how his darkness seeped into the very foundation of Derry town. Additionally, I’m ecstatic that some of the creatives behind today’s horror flicks – such as Andy and Barbara Muschietti, along with Bill Skarsgard – are involved in the series production too, as I believe they will make Welcome to Derry as spine-tingling as any scene from the It movies.
