Throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially during the Infinity Saga, many characters have experienced significant development. This growth is particularly noticeable in the Avengers films, where the heroes start as reluctant allies before uniting to defeat Loki and the Chitauri. They later reassemble in Avengers: Age of Ultron to battle another iconic MCU villain. That film proved to be surprisingly expansive and interconnected, while also introducing important new characters like Wanda Maximoff and Vision.
Okay, so Avengers: Age of Ultron mostly felt like its own thing, but there were a few parts that definitely hinted at what was coming next. Like, Thor running off on that little side quest? A lot of fans thought that pulled him away from the main action and felt a bit weird at the time, but it was clearly setting stuff up for later movies.
A puzzling figure appears in one of Tony Stark’s visions, as noted by @kickigncomcis on X (formerly Twitter). While most of the characters are recognizable, a woman in armor stands next to the deceased Hawkeye. She might have just been a background extra portraying a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, but her presence feels odd. Some fans believe she could be a hint at Kate Bishop, who later joined the MCU as played by Hailee Steinfeld. Another theory proposes she’s Tony’s daughter, who appears in Avengers: Endgame, with Katherine Langford originally cast as an older version of her in a different vision.
A common idea is that the unidentified woman was a planned character who ultimately didn’t appear in the film. Marvel often makes changes to its movies during reshoots, particularly with cameos, and this could have been one of those scrapped ideas. Early in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, storylines were usually followed through, but that’s happened less often recently. While the deceased character is significant enough to remain deceased alongside other fallen Avengers, given how many new characters have been introduced since Age of Ultron, it seems unlikely the mystery will be solved anytime soon, if ever. Still, it’s fun to speculate about what could have been.
