Elio
Elio tells the story of an 11-year-old boy who feels like he doesn’t quite fit in. His life changes when he’s suddenly taken to the Communiverse, where everyone believes he’s Earth’s official representative. He must then learn to handle complicated relationships with other planets and alien creatures, like Glordon, all while his aunt Olga tries to understand what’s happening back on Earth.
Pixar’s latest film, Elio, didn’t perform as well as other Pixar movies at the box office, actually setting a record for the studio’s lowest opening weekend. However, the movie is notable for its imaginative story and themes of finding yourself and where you fit in. Elio skillfully blends comedy with emotional moments, creating a film that is both beautiful to look at and genuinely moving.
The Good Dinosaur
The movie The Good Dinosaur tells the story of Arlo, a young dinosaur living in a world where dinosaurs still exist. When a big flood separates Arlo from his family and takes his father’s life, he has to find his way back home. During his travels, he meets a wild human boy named Spot, and the two form a surprising friendship, with Arlo taking on the role of Spot’s companion and protector.
Though often forgotten, this Pixar film is special because of its beautiful animation and sweet story. It follows Arlo on a moving adventure that deals with difficult feelings like fear and sadness, and shows how to be brave. It’s a great movie for the whole family to enjoy.
A Bug’s Life
In A Bug’s Life, Flik is a creative but clumsy ant who accidentally messes up the colony’s yearly food offering to a group of bullying grasshoppers led by Hopper. Wanting to save his home, Flik tries to hire strong bugs for protection, but mistakenly ends up with a team of circus performers. Despite this setback, Flik comes up with a clever plan to trick the grasshoppers and free his colony.
Pixar’s A Bug’s Life was a hit in theaters and is still considered a standout film from the studio. It’s known for its creative and imaginative world, along with fun, memorable characters, all working together in a story about the importance of teamwork and bravery.
Elemental
The movie Elemental is set in a city inhabited by people made of fire, earth, water, and air. It follows Ember, a passionate and strong-willed woman made of fire, and Wade, a relaxed and go-with-the-flow water resident, whose lives unexpectedly connect. As they challenge each other’s assumptions about the differences between their elements, they begin to create change both in their city and in their own lives.
What makes Elemental truly special is its emotional depth and creative way of telling a story. Pixar cleverly uses characters representing the elements to examine themes like finding yourself, understanding different cultures, and the importance of connection. The movie Onward follows teenage elf brothers Ian and Barley Lightfoot in a world where magic is largely forgotten, replaced by everyday technology. On Ian’s 16th birthday, they try to use a magic staff to bring their deceased father back to life for one day, but the spell only manages to recreate the lower half of his body. They then embark on a quest to finish the spell before time runs out.
This film beautifully combines exciting adventure with a touching story about family. The relationship between Ian and Barley is central to the themes of brotherhood and finding yourself, and the film’s updated magical setting provides plenty of humor and visual flair. Onward is a truly captivating and heartwarming movie that’s well-deserving of all the positive attention it’s received.
Lightyear
The movie Lightyear tells the story of Space Ranger Buzz Lightyear and his challenging mission far from home. When Buzz and his team get stuck on a dangerous planet, he works tirelessly to master faster-than-light travel. However, he soon discovers that time passes differently for him than for those he left behind. To overcome this and defeat a powerful enemy, Buzz must learn to work as a team and come to terms with his altered circumstances.
Everyone knows Buzz Lightyear from the popular Toy Story movies. Lightyear tells the story of the space ranger who inspired the toy, and it’s the film Andy supposedly saw as a kid. It’s a sci-fi adventure that’s both exciting and heartfelt, with a villain who isn’t simply evil, and it deals with big ideas like being too focused on goals, dealing with loss, and becoming a better person.
Turning Red
Turning Red tells the story of Mei Lee, a lively 13-year-old Chinese-Canadian girl who discovers she can magically transform into a giant red panda when she gets strong emotions. As she deals with this surprising change, she also juggles the challenges of friendships, family pressures, and growing up, all while trying to see her favorite band, 4 Town, in concert.
Turning Red honestly captures the messy and emotional experience of growing up, showing all the awkwardness and genuine feelings that come with it. While it might not be as famous as some other Pixar movies, its combination of funny moments and heartfelt story makes it one of the best original films to come out recently.
Luca
Luca tells the story of a young sea monster named Luca Paguro who lives a quiet life off the coast of Italy. He can transform into a human when he’s on land, and he uses this ability to explore the town of Portorosso with his friend Alberto. Together, they experience what it’s like to be human, make friends, and compete in a local race, all while trying to keep their true identities a secret.

It follows a young boy’s journey of self-discovery as he learns to embrace his individuality and find his place in the world. With charming animation and a cast of unforgettable characters, Luca is a delightful story about celebrating what makes you unique.
Brave
The movie Brave tells the story of Merida, a strong-willed princess in Scotland who doesn’t want to get married. When she tries to change her fate, she accidentally turns her mother into a bear. To break the spell, Merida and her mother need to learn to get along and work together before the transformation becomes permanent.
Unlike typical Disney princess stories, this film focuses on the bond between a mother and daughter, the importance of independence, and exciting adventures. Brave beautifully combines fantasy, well-developed characters, and the landscapes of the Scottish Highlands, resulting in a visually impressive movie that is both heartwarming and action-packed.
Soul
The movie Soul tells the story of Joe Gardner, a middle school band teacher who dreams of being a jazz musician. After a serious accident, his soul is separated from his body, and he ends up in a place called The Great Before—a world where new souls develop their personalities and interests. While there, Joe is tasked with mentoring 22, a soul who doesn’t want to live, and helping her find her spark so he can return to life.
This film is a touching and thought-provoking story about what gives life meaning, from pursuing your passions to appreciating simple pleasures. While Soul might not be as widely recognized as some other Pixar classics, it’s definitely worthy of the same praise.
