10 Great 2025 Movies That Should Get Sequels as Comic Books

As a movie lover, I can confidently say 2025 delivered some truly fantastic films – the kind critics and general audiences both adored. We had a lot of instant classics and genuinely fun crowd-pleasers. However, when you look at how much money those films actually made, the picture gets a little more complicated. It seems like box office numbers don’t quite match up with how good the movies actually were.

Generally, it’s unlikely that many of these films will get sequels, though there are a few exceptions. But if you’re hoping to see more of the stories you love, comic books often continue where the movies leave off.

Macon Blair’s The Toxic Avenger Deserves A Follow-Up

Macon Blair’s film, released in August 2025, is being hailed as the strongest addition to the Troma franchise since the very first movie. The funny and energetic reboot features Peter Dinklage as a struggling janitor who gains superpowers after a strange event.

The beloved 1984 film that launched the sci-fi comedy also became a comic book, first published by Marvel and now distributed by Ahoy Comics. It would be exciting to see a new series exploring the adventures of the current Toxie – played by Luisa Guerreiro after his transformation – in a similar style.

Predator: Badlands Made A Yautja Into A Hero

The creature from the Predator movies has become remarkably popular in comic books, arguably more so than many other film characters. In fact, the comics have heavily influenced several Predator sequels and prequels, even giving the alien species its official name, “Yautja,” as seen in the Predator: Badlands comic where a character named Dek identifies himself as such.

Marvel released a special comic book to connect with their popular 2025 movie, but the film sets up possibilities for future stories too. The movie series has been working well as a collection of standalone adventures under director Dan Trachtenberg, and it might be best to keep it that way. We should definitely see what happens next with Dek, who is building a new group with the artificial being Thia (Elle Fanning) and another creature named Bud.

Novocaine Is A Secret Superhero Origin Story

Imagine a man who can’t feel pain using this unusual ability to save the woman he loves from dangerous criminals. While it sounds like something out of a superhero movie, it’s actually the storyline of…

The action comedy with Jack Quaid and Amber Midthunder definitely feels like the beginning of a superhero story. While it wasn’t a huge success in theaters, continuing the hero’s adventures in a comic book would be a great way to keep the story going.

Black Bag Is An Entrancing Espionage Tale

In 2025, director Steven Soderbergh and writer David Koepp released two critically acclaimed films: the distinctive ghost story Presence, and a gripping spy thriller. The thriller features Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender as a married couple working as intelligence agents, and explores how their relationship is strained when dangerous secrets are revealed.

While the love story and connections between the characters are arguably more compelling than the main plot of this dark, funny thriller, the film’s vibrant, retro-inspired world – reminiscent of classic Bond films – feels ripe for a spin-off that comic book fans, especially those who enjoy a nostalgic style, would love.

Bob Odenkirk’s Action Hero Returned In Nobody 2

Bob Odenkirk first showed his serious acting skills in the popular shows Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. Then, he surprised audiences by becoming an action star in the 2021 film Nobody. He successfully revisited that action-hero persona four years later with the thrilling Nobody 2.

While it’s unlikely Bob Odenkirk will reprise his role as Hutch Mansell in a movie, the character could definitely continue in comic book form. A Nobody comic could be particularly interesting if it told the story of his life before he became a family man, filling in the gaps of his past.

Sinners Introduces A Supernatural World Ripe For Exploration

Few expected a horror movie to be a frontrunner for the best film of 2025, but that’s exactly what happened with Sinners. The film, starring Michael B. Jordan as twin brothers, tells the story of a club opening in the Jim Crow South that’s disrupted by the sudden appearance of vampires, and both critics and audiences loved it.

Even though the movie was a critical and commercial success, writer and director Ryan Coogler isn’t currently planning a sequel. However, there are many possibilities for future stories. They could continue the adventures of Stack and Mary after they leave the Juke Joint, or focus on the Choctaw vampire hunters who were briefly featured in the film, potentially as a spin-off.

K-Pop Demon Hunters Easily Could Have Been A Manhwa

It’s surprising to discover that this story wasn’t originally a comic book. The idea of a singing group secretly protecting the world from evil feels like something you’d typically find in a Korean comic, known as a manhwa.

Wouldn’t it be great to see more of the story from the animated movie? Giving Rumi, Mira, and Zoey their own comic book series would be a fantastic way to expand on their world. While a sequel to K-Pop Demon Hunters might be happening, comics would allow their adventures to continue endlessly.

Companion’s Futuristic World Should Expand

One of the most pleasant surprises at the movies in 2025 was Companion. This debut feature film, written and directed by Drew Hancock, reminded many viewers of the thought-provoking series Black Mirror, though it ultimately offered a more hopeful outlook.

The sci-fi comedy-drama centers on Iris (Sophie Thatcher), a remarkably lifelike sex robot who escapes her abusive owner (Jack Quaid) and embarks on an unpredictable journey. The story would work well as a comic book, offering a chance to explore this world’s other advanced technologies and Iris’s future adventures.

Fountain Of Youth Has Potential For More Exciting Expeditions

In 2025, director Guy Ritchie stepped away from his usual crime and spy films—with the exception of his series MobLand—to try his hand at an action-adventure movie called Fountain of Youth. The film stars John Krasinski as Luke Purdue, a driven archaeologist who teams up with his sister, Charlotte (played by Academy Award winner Natalie Portman), and a group of others to search for the legendary Fountain of Youth.

This Apple TV movie clearly takes inspiration from films like Indiana Jones, but despite being somewhat unoriginal, it’s still an enjoyable watch for anyone wondering what a modern adventure story in that style would be like. The film ends in a way that suggests a sequel could happen, though the characters might be even better suited for continued adventures in a comic book series, searching for more legendary treasures.

Bugonia Boasts An Out-Of-This-World Concept

If you haven’t seen the movie Bugonia yet, be warned – this article contains spoilers! Explaining why director Yorgos Lanthimos’ strange and funny drama, featuring Jesse Plemons as a kidnapper, would make a great comic book requires revealing how the story ends.

At first glance, a comic book series based on Bugonia might seem unlikely. However, the surprising revelation that Michelle Stone is actually an alien creates exciting opportunities. A new series could tell the story of how she came to Earth, or it could continue her adventures and delve into the world of her alien species.
