Before the movie version of The Mandalorian arrives in theaters, it’s a good idea to revisit some key episodes. On May 22nd, Din Djarin and Grogu will be released in cinemas worldwide in a film simply titled The Mandalorian and Grogu – a descriptive, though not particularly creative, name. The movie is directed by Jon Favreau, who also co-wrote the script with Dave Filoni.
It’s been nearly three years since we last followed Mando and Grogu’s adventures, and with a long wait – especially after a difficult 2025 – many fans might need a refresher. It would be a good idea to rewatch some of the show’s most important episodes before the movie is released.
Chapter 1: The Mandalorian
Season 1, Episode 1
Before the new season of The Mandalorian and Grogu arrives, I really think everyone should revisit the first episode. It’s honestly one of the best starts to any show I’ve seen in ages! It delivered exactly what we hoped for – a cool, tough Star Wars story with a lone bounty hunter – but then it threw a huge surprise at the end that completely changed everything and set up something totally unexpected. It was brilliant!
After tracking down his target, Din Djarin discovers the bounty isn’t what he expected—it’s a baby belonging to the same rare species as Yoda. Instead of completing the job, he decides to protect the child, marking the real start of his journey as a protector and father figure. The previously solitary bounty hunter now has a little one to care for.
Chapter 3: The Sin
Season 1, Episode 3
The series began with Din Djarin (Mando) and Grogu meeting, but the real turning point came in the third episode, “The Sin.” After initially handing Grogu over to the Client and receiving payment from Greef Karga, Mando went back to his ship. However, seeing something that reminded him of the Child, he decided he’d made a mistake and wanted Grogu back.
“The Sin” is a standout episode of The Mandalorian and highly rewatchable. Watching Mando fight his way through the Client’s base to rescue the Child, utilizing all his weapons and gear to defeat the Stormtroopers, is consistently exciting. Many fans believe this episode was a turning point, truly revitalizing Star Wars.
Chapter 8: Redemption
Season 1, Episode 8
The first season of The Mandalorian ends with some important developments for the story. We see Moff Gideon appear, IG-11 finds a meaningful way to make amends, and Din Djarin begins his journey to find the Jedi to protect Grogu.
The season finale not only intensified the conflict between Mando and Moff Gideon, but also demonstrated the impressive, cinematic scale of the series. The moment Mando uses his jetpack to attack Gideon’s fighter perfectly illustrates why this show was always destined for the big screen.
Chapter 13: The Jedi
Season 2, Episode 5
In “Chapter 13: The Jedi,” Mando successfully brought Grogu to a Jedi who had survived the purge. This episode revealed almost everything we know about Grogu’s past – Ahsoka Tano used the Force to connect with him and discovered his true name and history. Before this, everyone simply called him “The Child.”
The first episode of “The Jedi” is a fantastic introduction to Rosario Dawson as the live-action Ahsoka, feeling like a fast-paced action film inspired by Kurosawa and showcasing Ahsoka at her most powerful. It also expands on the backstory of “Baby Yoda,” also known as Grogu.
Chapter 14: The Tragedy
Season 2, Episode 6
Ahsoka directs Mando to an old Jedi temple, hoping Grogu can connect with the Force and potentially find a Jedi master to train him. However, their visit takes an unexpected turn when Imperial forces arrive, attempting to kidnap Grogu while he’s communicating with Luke Skywalker through the Force.
After appearing in The Empire Strikes Back four decades ago, Boba Fett finally got the chance to shine in “Chapter 14: The Tragedy.” While it was tough to watch Din Djarin lose Grogu and his ship, the Razor Crest, it was incredibly satisfying to see Boba Fett take down a whole group of Stormtroopers.
Chapter 16: The Rescue
Season 2, Episode 8
Many fans agree that The Mandalorian was at its best with the season 2 finale. Season 3 didn’t feel as strong, likely because it was hard to follow up such a high point. Some believe the show should have ended after season 2, as it would have been a satisfying conclusion.
Chapter 16, ‘The Rescue,’ is incredible! Seeing Luke Skywalker go all-out against those Dark Troopers was the most amazing action I’ve ever seen in The Mandalorian. But it wasn’t just action – the goodbye between Mando and Grogu was so well done, it really got to me. It’s just a shame things changed so quickly after that.
Chapter 6: From The Desert Comes A Stranger
The Book Of Boba Fett Episode 6
Jon Favreau surprisingly shifted major plot points of The Mandalorian to The Book of Boba Fett. Around the middle of that show, it unexpectedly continued The Mandalorian‘s story, essentially acting as a continuation of season 2. Din Djarin (Mando) and Grogu were reunited, Grogu decided to become a Mandalorian instead of training as a Jedi, and a seemingly final goodbye between them was quickly undone.
It’s strange to say, but the final episodes of The Book of Boba Fett are actually key to following the story of The Mandalorian. Jumping straight from the end of The Mandalorian season 2 to the beginning of season 3 would leave you feeling like you missed an entire season.
Chapter 7: In The Name Of Honor
The Book Of Boba Fett Episode 7
Mando and Grogu reunited in the final episode of The Book of Boba Fett—a surprising choice, considering how the show had struggled. While The Book of Boba Fett ultimately didn’t live up to its promise, that finale did have some exciting moments.
As a huge Star Wars fan, let me tell you, ‘The Book of Boba Fett’ delivered some seriously cool moments! Seeing Mando team up with Boba was awesome, and Boba riding a rancor? Epic! But the absolute highlight was the duel between Boba and Cad Bane – they really nailed the live-action version of that character. Honestly, it wasn’t groundbreaking TV, but it was just plain fun to watch.
Chapter 23: The Spies
Season 3, Episode 7
The next-to-last episode of The Mandalorian‘s third season features one of the largest and most intense battle sequences in the entire show. This fight for Mandalore significantly changes things, making Mando’s goal of restoring his home planet much more difficult.
Paz Vizsla’s heroic death perfectly capped off an already excellent episode. While he hadn’t stood out much previously and often seemed stern, his final moments established him as a true hero.
Chapter 24: The Return
Season 3, Episode 8
The season 3 finale of The Mandalorian and Grogu most clearly sets the stage for what comes next. Once the final battle with Moff Gideon is over, the show establishes a new normal: Din Djarin (Mando) begins taking legitimate jobs from Carson Teva, and he and Grogu settle into a small home on the planet Nevarro.
When we find him in The Mandalorian movie, Din Djarin will be working for the New Republic and happily settled into life as a rancher with Grogu. While that peaceful existence won’t last forever – a major conflict will inevitably arise – that’s where the film begins.
