The Final Destination movies are famous for their imaginative and often shocking ways characters meet their end. The series has become well-known for its complex, chain-reaction deaths that leave audiences wondering what will happen next.
What makes the kills in this series so good is their originality – each one is unique. Death finds a huge variety of ways to trap its victims, and the movies sometimes surprise viewers with unexpected deaths. With six Final Destination films released, fans have many favorites, but ten really represent the best of the bunch.
10. Carter Daniels — The Final Destination
While often considered the weakest entry in the Final Destination series, the fourth film still delivers at least one memorable death. That standout moment involves Carter Daniels, a character with extremist beliefs, who meets his end in an over-the-top and somewhat comical scene, initiating Death’s plan in this installment.
While Carter was setting a cross on fire in someone’s yard, a falling mirror accidentally shifted his tow truck into neutral. Gasoline started leaking, and as he tried to fix it, the truck’s hook caught his ankle and dragged him down the road, all set to the tune of “Why Can’t We Be Friends” playing on the radio.
The scene culminates in a fiery explosion: sparks from the tow chain ignite spilled gasoline, engulfing the truck and Carter in flames. It’s a darkly comedic moment that perfectly captures the self-aware humor of the Final Destination series, highlighting just how unlikeable Carter is, even as he meets his end.
9. Olivia Castle — Final Destination 5
Although the scene is visually impressive, the most compelling part isn’t the actual killing, but what leads up to it. Throughout the movie, Olivia is often seen feeling insecure about wearing glasses. When she finally decides to have laser eye surgery, she’s secured in the doctor’s chair, ready to go. But then, the doctor briefly leaves the room to fix a mistake.
Death unexpectedly overloads the laser system with a surge of power, making it dangerously strong. Olivia is caught in the blast, suffering intense pain to her eye and hand as she tries to break free. Finally escaping the chair, she stumbles, falls, and crashes through a window, landing on a car with a severe eye injury.
The scene builds intense suspense, making viewers almost feel the impact of the laser. While Olivia’s fall might not be the most iconic moment, it effectively wraps up what is already a standout scene from the fifth movie.
8. Kat Jennings — Final Destination 2
The effectiveness of this death scene comes from its surprising nature. At this moment in the story, Kat is pinned in her car after an accident – a log has rolled across her legs, and a broken piece of PVC pipe is dangerously close to her head.
It was awful watching the firefighters try to get to her. They used the Jaws of Life, but it accidentally set off the car’s airbag. As the airbag deflated, we all saw – and it’s something I’ll never forget – that the force of it actually pushed her further into the metal pipe, and it… it killed her instantly. It was a horrific accident.
This scene perfectly demonstrates why Final Destination 2 is a standout sequel. It starts with a clever setup and a humorous moment involving the airbag. Then, the film quickly turns dark and shocking, revealing Kat’s immediate death in the crash. It’s a brief but incredibly impactful kill.
7. Iris Campbell — Final Destination Bloodlines
The newest Final Destination movie is full of incredible scenes, and this one is a standout. Iris Campbell, the grandmother, has spent years outsmarting Death and becomes something of an expert on how it works. When her granddaughter doesn’t take her warnings seriously, Iris makes the ultimate sacrifice to protect her family and prepare them for the danger ahead.
As soon as she feels a change in the wind and sees a fire extinguisher by the weather vane, she hurries outside to share her thoughts on death with her granddaughter, Stefani. Then, accepting what’s about to happen, she’s struck when the fire extinguisher launches into the weather vane, sending debris flying. The impact sends a piece of metal hurtling through the air and directly into her face.
Okay, let me tell you, the way they handled the aftermath of Iris’s death really stuck with me. It wasn’t just that she died, it was the detail – the blood splatter actually hitting Stefani. It sounds small, but the way it looked – thick, dark, realistically viscous – instantly made the whole scene even more disturbing and frankly, terrifying. It elevated what was already a pretty gruesome moment to something truly unsettling.
6. Terry Chaney — Final Destination
The first Final Destination movie is fairly straightforward. The deaths aren’t as complex as those in the later films, but this one shows that simplicity can be very effective.
Terry is with Carter when he starts to scold Alex Browning about Flight 180 and their deceased friends. Terry quickly gets annoyed and confronts Carter. As she turns to leave, a bus unexpectedly hits her. This shocking moment surprised many viewers and remains one of the most memorable and talked-about deaths in the series because of its impact.
5. Ashley and Ashlyn — Final Destination 3
Twenty years after its release, the tanning bed scene from Final Destination 3 remains a popular and memorable kill. The scene depicts high school students Ashley and Ashlyn getting a tan before graduation. While adjusting the bed’s settings, the heat causes condensation to form on a nearby slushie cup.
Water leaked onto an electrical outlet, causing the tanning beds to start overheating. As they attempted to escape, a bookcase collapsed, trapping them inside. Then, the tanning bed lights malfunctioned and burst into flames, engulfing them.
What makes this scene so unforgettable is how ridiculous it is. It’s a really imaginative way for the killer to get someone, and the quick cut to the victims’ coffins mirroring the tanning beds is the perfect finishing touch.
4. Tim Carpenter — Final Destination 2
Tim is unique among those who meet their fate in the Final Destination series because of his young age. As of 2026, he’s the youngest person to die as part of Death’s plan, and his death is particularly gruesome.
There’s a really dramatic scene at the dentist’s office where it appears the character is about to suffocate. He starts to overdose on laughing gas, and a toy blowfish falls and blocks his breathing. Luckily, he’s rescued just in time.
Tim’s death quickly follows. He startles some pigeons, causing them to interfere with a crane operator, who then drops a large window pane, fatally crushing Tim. The scene is famously gruesome and a favorite among fans of the Final Destination series.
3. Rory Peters — Final Destination 2
It’s hard for a slasher movie to follow up a great death with an even better one, but Rory’s death has become a truly memorable moment in the series.
Shortly after Kat died, she dropped her cigarette. The wind carried it into a spill of gasoline from a news van, causing the van to explode. The blast sent a barbed-wire fence flying towards Rory.
The character is sliced clean through by a swift attack, and his body parts drift down to the ground as he’s left speechless with shock. The special effects were remarkably advanced for the time, creating a truly unsettling and memorable death scene – one of the most impactful in the entire series.
2. Erik Campbell — Final Destination Bloodlines
As a big fan of Bloodlines, Erik’s death really took me by surprise. I mean, finding out he wasn’t even supposed to die according to Death himself was a shock. But honestly, the way it happens – his attempt to save Bobby – is just powerfully moving and unforgettable. It’s a truly incredible scene.
Everything happens around an MRI machine that Death activates when the brothers begin their plan. The machine’s magnetic force increases, and Erik unintentionally switches it to its highest, “Research Power” setting.
Bobby’s metal piercings caused a dangerous reaction with the MRI machine, attracting the wheelchair he was sitting in. The chair suddenly launched forward, trapping and crushing him against the powerful magnet, ultimately resulting in a horrific and fatal accident. This tragic event serves as a stark reminder that provoking a powerful force can have devastating consequences for anyone.
1. Candice Hooper — Final Destination 5
The opening death scene in Final Destination 5 proved the series could still deliver creative and thrilling kills. It involves a gymnast named Candice at a competition, where a loose screw falls onto a balance beam, leading to a tragic accident.
Throughout the routine, Candice repeatedly approaches a single apparatus but never quite reaches it, narrowly missing it each time she dismounts. As she transitions to the uneven bars, another gymnast begins her performance on the balance beam.
While Candice was tumbling, another gymnast accidentally stepped on a loose screw, tipping over a container of chalk dust. A fan then blew the dust into Candice’s eyes, causing her to fall and suffer serious injuries to her spine and legs.
The suspense in this scene strongly recalls the style of Alfred Hitchcock and is brilliantly done. Even without the shocking finale, it’s arguably the best death sequence in the Final Destination films due to its clever build-up, but the gruesome outcome truly makes it memorable.
