Online fans are speculating about who will wield Mjolnir next, and some believe it won’t be a traditional hero, but the villain Doctor Doom. While Doom isn’t inherently worthy, the theory suggests he’d use his incredible intelligence to overcome the magical enchantment and lift the hammer anyway. Although that would be an exciting twist, many viewers would prefer to see a genuinely heroic character claim Mjolnir. The current Avengers roster includes several worthy candidates who could be a surprising but welcome choice.
Thor Is Mjolnir’s Main Wielder
It’s no surprise that Thor is one of the most worthy individuals to wield Mjolnir. Though he doubted himself for a time after losing the hammer, the latest Thor movie, along with a heartfelt discussion with his mother in Avengers: Endgame, reaffirmed that he truly possesses the qualities needed to lift it.
Following recent events, Thor feels completely confident in his worthiness. While his time without Mjolnir showed fans that other heroes can wield it – like Jane Foster, who became the Mighty Thor in Love & Thunder – the hammer ultimately returned to him. Chris Hemsworth has hinted at many more exciting adventures for Thor within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Steve Rogers Lifted Mjolnir Already
Marvel Studios announced in December that Chris Evans will reprise his role as Steve Rogers in Avengers: Endgame. This, combined with rumors about Mjolnir, has led fans to speculate whether he might be the one to wield Thor’s hammer. Though it wasn’t previously expected, it would logically fit with the storyline.
If Chris Evans returns as Captain America from the main Marvel universe (Earth-616), it would make sense for him to regain his worthiness after a long time. While fans wouldn’t be as shocked as they were in Avengers: Endgame, it would firmly re-establish Captain America as a powerful leader and fighter within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially as the Multiverse Saga unfolds.
Love Has Moved Mjolnir Before
A final scene in Thor: Love and Thunder clearly showed that Thor’s adopted daughter, Love, is able to use Mjolnir. She was seen decorating the hammer, which wouldn’t be possible unless she could lift it. The movie doesn’t explain why she can wield Mjolnir – whether it’s due to her worthiness or simply her powerful abilities.
With India Rose Hemsworth officially joining the cast, many fans believe her character, Love, will play a significant part in Avengers: Doomsday. The movie might finally reveal Love’s connection to Mjolnir and prove she’s worthy to wield it. Given her father’s potential absence, it makes sense for her to step up, which could establish her as a major new hero within the Marvel franchise.
Captain Carter Has Saved the Universe
Hayley Atwell is returning as Peggy Carter in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie, Marvel Studios has announced. It’s still unclear which version of Peggy Carter she’ll be playing – the one from the main Marvel Cinematic Universe, or the alternate version seen as the Guardian of the Multiverse in the What If…? series. If it’s the What If…? version, she could become a powerful contender to wield Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir.
While not everyone is a fan, Peggy Carter, the Captain Carter from What If…?, is a truly impressive hero. She’s a brilliant strategist and fighter, known for her strong morals and leadership abilities. She’s also incredibly selfless and brave, having saved the universe multiple times. And if Thor isn’t available, she’s proven she can handle Mjolnir.
Shang-Chi Definitely Has What It Takes to Lift Mjolnir
Shang-Chi, the son of Xu Wenwu, left behind his father’s vengeful ways to start a quiet life in San Francisco in 2021. However, his past eventually led him to become a superhero within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’s been confirmed to appear in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie, raising speculation that he might even be strong enough to lift Thor’s hammer.
Shang-Chi has never wielded Mjolnir in either the comics or movies. However, he possesses the courage and heroic qualities typically required to lift the hammer. He’s proven his selflessness by risking his life for others and has overcome a difficult family history. It remains to be seen if he’d do absolutely anything to protect people, but the events of Avengers: Doomsday might reveal his true capacity.
The Thing Only Needs to Deal with His Self-Doubt
Ben Grimm, known as the Thing, is a remarkably selfless hero in the Marvel Universe. He’s a genuinely good person, deeply dedicated to helping those around him, and constantly puts others before himself – all qualities that make someone truly deserving. With the Fantastic Four expected to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, it’s quite possible we’ll see him try to lift Thor’s hammer, even though it would look small in his massive hands.
Ben’s biggest obstacle to becoming truly worthy seems to be his lack of self-confidence. The comic series Fantastic Four: First Steps highlighted his struggles with his appearance and the resulting insecurity. However, Avengers: Doomsday is set years later, and, mirroring the comic books, the Thing may have finally accepted himself. This newfound self-acceptance could be exactly what allows him to become worthy just when it matters most.
Nightcrawler Deserves a Shot After the Fox Films
Nightcrawler, the X-Men hero, is absolutely worthy of wielding Mjolnir, the enchanted hammer. Despite his demonic appearance, he’s known as one of the most genuinely good characters in the Marvel universe. He always does what’s right, inspiring others with his strong moral code and willingness to sacrifice everything for others. In fact, he’s so pure of heart that he was able to wield the powerful Soulsword without being corrupted by it. This demonstrates he’d do whatever it takes to protect people, all while staying true to his values and fighting for what’s just.
Seeing Nightcrawler prove himself in a live-action movie would be fantastic. It would be especially cool if a character from the old Fox Marvel films was the one chosen. This kind of crossover is what fans have been hoping for, and it would also be a great way to fix the disappointing portrayal of Nightcrawler in the earlier movies by finally incorporating elements of his comic book backstory and growth.
The Invisible Woman Is an Underrated Warrior
If Ben Grimm might be able to lift Mjolnir, then Sue Storm should definitely be able to. She’s one of the most courageous heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and consistently puts herself on the line to protect others. A great example of this is when she persuaded the Mole Man to help evacuate people when Galactus threatened Earth.
Sue is fiercely protective of her family, and fans know she won’t hesitate to defend them. But she’s also incredibly selfless, always willing to risk everything to help others. She has a strong sense of right and wrong, and she’s a determined fighter – so much so that even Thor would admire her strength and courage.
Sam Wilson Doesn’t Believe His Worthy, But He Is
Sam Wilson, now Captain America, has often questioned whether he truly deserves the title, especially after the challenges he faced in Captain America: Brave New World, including a battle with the Hulk. This struggle with feeling worthy is a key part of his character, and it would be fitting for Avengers: Doomsday to finally give him a satisfying answer and confirmation.
There’s no faster way to prove Sam Wilson deserves the title of hero than for him to lift an enchanted hammer. He already possesses all the qualities needed – bravery, kindness, and intelligence. Just like the original Captain America, he’s truly worthy of wielding Mjolnir. This scene in Avengers: Doomsday would likely silence many of the skeptical fans online.
Loki Made the Ultimate Sacrifice Already
It’s difficult to picture the classic Loki, the mischievous god from mythology, actually using Mjolnir unless he tricked someone or used magic. However, the Loki we see in the Marvel Cinematic Universe now is different. After the events of the Loki series, this version of Thor’s brother discovered a meaningful purpose and ultimately gave his life to save everyone.
In the series’ final moments, Loki saved the Multiverse by destroying the Temporal Loom and then rebuilding it as a branching tree. This act of heroism came at the cost of his own life, ensuring the survival of all others. It’s hard to imagine a more selfless act within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Considering his transformation from villain to hero, many fans – and even Thor – would be astonished to see how much Loki has changed since he wielded Mjolnir in Avengers: Doomsday.
