The announcement that IO Interactive, the team behind Hitman, was creating a James Bond game caused a lot of excitement. Hitman: World of Assassination has remained a fantastic game over time, and fans have been waiting a long time for a truly great James Bond experience.
It’s no surprise 007 First Light has been getting great reviews. And you don’t have to just believe me – here’s what our reviewer, Christian Bognar, had to say about it:
IO Interactive truly delivered with their latest game, crafting not just an incredible gaming experience, but a story that feels like a classic James Bond adventure. Featuring excellent writing, strong performances from the actors, stunning visuals, and dynamic gameplay, 007 First Light is both stylish and captivating.
It’s fantastic to finally have a James Bond game that’s as fun to play as the original GoldenEye 007 – it really feels great on Xbox!
So, how does this game stack up against others like it? From what I’m seeing in the reviews, it looks like we might have a brand new top-tier stealth series here – seriously, it could be huge!
007 First Light Is Reviewing Better Than Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater

As beloved as Hitman is today, it took some time for people to be won over.
Man, IO Interactive really nailed the Hitman trilogy, and it’s awesome to see that all that work led to where we are now with World of Assassination. Honestly, I’m not surprised First Light is getting better reviews than the original Hitman – it’s clear IO learned a ton from those earlier games and are building on what players already loved.
Interestingly, many players actually prefer First Light over the newest Metal Gear Solid game. This is especially surprising because the latest Metal Gear Solid is a remake of a classic, highly-regarded title.
Review scores for 007 First Light are currently higher than those for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. OpenCritic gives First Light an average score of 88, compared to 85 for Snake Eater. Our team at TopMob also favored First Light, awarding it 9/10 versus 8.5/10 for Snake Eater. While this doesn’t necessarily mean First Light is better than games like The Phantom Pain, it’s important to remember that Hideo Kojima is no longer involved with the Metal Gear Solid series.
IO Interactive Brought James Bond Games Back From the Dead
Konami’s remake of Snake Eater was well-done, but the original game was already a strong base to work with. IO Interactive faced a bigger challenge with Hitman – the series had been stalled in development for over ten years. Considering that, what they achieved is even more remarkable.

Looking back at James Bond video games, the quality has been inconsistent. Games like 2012’s 007 Legends and the 2010 GoldenEye 007 remake felt more like generic action games than true Bond experiences.
First Light is the preferred spy game over the most recent Metal Gear Solid entry.
As a big Bond fan, I have to admit the video games hadn’t been great for a while. Everyone was so excited for EA’s From Russia with Love back in 2005, but it just didn’t really click with anyone. And honestly, the Quantum of Solace game completely slipped my mind – which, thinking about it, feels right, because the movie itself wasn’t that memorable either!
James Bond games had been trying to recapture their former glory for a long time. While classics like GoldenEye 007 were memorable, titles like The World Is Not Enough, Agent Under Fire, and Everything or Nothing were also enjoyable—but they all came out before the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. It’s really remarkable that IO Interactive has not only created a good Bond game for today’s consoles, but one that even exceeds the quality of some of the most beloved stealth games ever made.
