If you’re hoping to play the new 007 game, 007 First Light, on your Nintendo Switch 2, you’ll have to wait longer than expected. IO Interactive, the game’s developer, recently announced on X (formerly Twitter) that the Switch 2 version has been delayed with no new release date set.
The new James Bond game, 007 First Light, will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on May 27, 2026. It will also be available on the Nintendo Switch 2, but sometime later this summer. The release on other platforms is still on schedule, but the Switch 2 version has been delayed, and a new release date hasn’t been announced.
Okay, so I just heard some disappointing news about the 007 game, ‘First Light’. IO Interactive announced it’s been delayed on the Switch – no new release date yet, unfortunately. It’s a bummer, I was really looking forward to playing it on the go!
The studio didn’t explain the delay, but said they want to make sure the game is high quality on all systems. They ended their announcement by saying they’re excited for players to experience the new James Bond story and want to deliver the best possible game.
The “Resident Evil Effect” on Switch 2?
The recent lack of information has understandably worried people who own or are planning to buy a Switch 2. Many fans immediately expressed concerns online, wondering if the game might not run well on the Nintendo console. One user joked, “Looks like the Switch 2 version will be stuck at a very low resolution!”
Some fans have started to suggest that Resident Evil Requiem might be causing problems for other Switch 2 games. The idea is that Capcom set the performance standard so high with this title that other developers are now worried about releasing poorly optimized versions of their games. One person even commented that Capcom is the only third-party developer who could release games on the Switch 2 at the same time as other consoles, which likely isn’t music to the ears of competing studios.
We haven’t confirmed if all the reports are accurate, but currently, 007 First Light is still scheduled to launch on May 27th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Development for the Nintendo Switch 2 version has been temporarily paused.

The new game will tell the story of how James Bond became 007. Patrick Gibson, known for his role in “Dexter: Original Sin,” will play the young Bond, and Lenny Kravitz will be one of the game’s primary villains.
