Ṣọpẹ Dìrísù to Lead Akinola Davies Jr.’s ‘My Father’s Shadow,’ for Element Pictures, BBC Film, Mubi

Ṣọpẹ Dìrísù has landed a leading film role.

Known primarily for his role in “Gangs of London” and more recently seen in the third season of “Slow Horses,” a rapidly emerging British actor is set to feature in “My Father’s Shadow,” the debut full-length film directed by Akinola Davies, a British-Nigerian filmmaker whose short film “Lizard” was both a Sundance winner and received BAFTA nomination.

The movie, jointly penned by Davies and his sibling Wale Davies (both credited as co-writers of “Lizard”), is a collaborative effort between production houses “Normal People” and “Poor Things”, namely Element Pictures, in partnership with BBC Film and the British Film Institute. Last year, filming concluded in Nigeria, specifically in Lagos where it was shot on location. Rachel Dargavel, who oversaw “Lizard’s” production for Element Pictures, is responsible for this project as well. Mubi has already secured the rights to distribute the film across various regions, including North America, U.K., Ireland, and Turkey.

EbMaster recognizes that the movie is loosely based on personal experiences and portrays the dynamic between a father and his two young sons throughout a single day in the city of Lagos, Nigeria.

Dirisu, born to Nigerian parents, has garnered praise for his main performances in “His House” and “Mr. Malcolm’s List,” while additionally featuring in “Mothering Sunday” and “Silent Night.”

Dirisu, who was born to Nigerian parents, is well-known for playing leading roles in several movies like “His House,” “Mr. Malcolm’s List,” “Mothering Sunday,” and “Silent Night.
