The eagerly awaited third season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has arrived, and fans are thrilled! With two episodes released already, it marks the last Trek series on the 2025 TV schedule. After a two-year wait, viewers are excited to see the continuation of the captivating Season 2 finale. Moreover, there’s a great deal of anticipation among fans who have high hopes and expectations for this season. Many are particularly keen to see more of Melissa Navia’s character “Erica Ortegas.” However, one may wonder if Season 3 will satisfy the “Moretegas” fans?
In a conversation prior to my viewing of Strange New Worlds with my Paramount+ subscription, I got to chat with Navia. My curiosity was piqued about whether she believed the Moretegas followers would find enough of Erica in this season to be content. The actress, who has previously discussed Ortegas’ storyline and its unclear future beyond this series, offered her candid thoughts on how she thinks fans will react to Erica’s part in Season 3:
I believe our portrayal has been satisfying so far, but it’s ultimately the audience who decides if it’s enough. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed playing Ortegas, and her presence in each episode feels like a highlight to me. Hearing that fans want more is music to my ears. If they ask for less of me, then I know we’re not hitting the mark. But when they ask for more, it tells me we’re on the right track. In Season 3, viewers will see new aspects of Ortegas, but based on my fans, I have a hunch they’ll want even more. We’re currently filming Season 4.
In my opinion, Melissa Navia’s intuitions are right on target because the Moretegas audience is particularly challenging to satisfy. Additionally, it doesn’t make things easier that the ship’s pilot has primarily stayed in the periphery of each story during the first two seasons, with her narrative progressing in a way reminiscent of how Marvel Cinematic Universe portrays The Hulk.
Additionally, I posed the same inquiry to the producers of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers. Goldsman mentioned that this question had already been put to him during our press day, and expressed his perplexity about it.
I must admit, I’m somewhat confused, but I manage to follow the story with just the first part of the season. However, there’s an extraordinary episode in the second half featuring nothing but the Ortegas, and it’s one of our best productions. So, fans of Mortegas should feel satisfied as they will have ample Ortegas.
It seems I’ve only got access to the initial five episodes of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and it looks like the significant Ortegas episode is scheduled for later in the season. This could be reassuring news, given how the Season 3 opener concluded for her character.

Unfortunately, the finish line for Season 5 is approaching, but there’s lots more of the series left to enjoy until then.

Yes, Erica Ortegas will be joining the journey, but according to Melissa Navia, her role depends on the enthusiasm of the Moretegas fans.
