As a seasoned Snapchat user who’s seen it grow from a simple messaging app to a multifaceted social platform, I must say the introduction of ‘Footsteps’ on Snap Map is a game-changer! It’s like having a digital footprint of my wanderlust adventures right there on the map.
For those who are Snapchat Plus members, you may have come across the ‘Footsteps’ option on your Snap Map and pondered about its purpose.
On Snapchat, people often turn to the platform to swiftly post brief updates, tales, or messages for their friends. However, it’s not just about messaging; it also comes equipped with various features that enhance user engagement within the application. One such feature is called ‘Footprints.’
For all Snapchat+ members who’ve spotted this new feature on their Snap Map lately, here’s a breakdown of what it’s all about!
What are Footsteps on the Snap Map?
This Footprints function allows you to monitor and record the places you’ve ventured around the globe, showing your movements on the Snap Map when you’re not using the Invisible (Ghost) Mode. Your personal Footprints will appear on the map, however, they can only be seen by you.
Snapchat has released a feature called “Footsteps on the Map” for Snapchat+.

As a dedicated gamer on Snapchat, I’m excited to share that I’ve got early access to a potential game-changer among their interactive tools – but only if you’re a Snapchat+ subscriber!
How to use Footsteps on Snapchat
Starting off with Footsteps is straightforward. Navigate to the Snap Map and grant permission by tapping ‘Okay’ on the Footsteps prompt. For an added thrill, Snapchat will automatically populate your Footsteps using your location-tagged Memories the very first time you use it.
With this feature, you’ll get a jump-start by viewing a visual timeline of your prior trips. Once that historical data has been loaded, though, Footsteps will no longer rely on Memories; it will focus solely on information from your future travels based on location data.
Should you ever wish to deactivate Footsteps, here’s a simple way to do it: Navigate to your account settings by clicking on your profile, then select the gear icon for Settings. In the ‘Account Actions’ section, you can find and adjust the ‘Footsteps’ setting either by turning it off or clearing its history.
