Viral Skyrim Grandma announces retirement from YouTube gaming videos

As a fan who has followed Shirley Curry’s journey from the very beginning, it’s with a mix of melancholy and admiration that I write this piece. The news of her retirement from creating gaming content is indeed saddening, but it also fills me with respect for the woman who has brought so much joy to our lives through her love for Skyrim.

80-year-old internet sensation Shirley Curry, famously known as ‘Skyrim Grandma’, has declared her retirement from producing gaming content.

88-year-old me has become a cherished icon within the realm of The Elder Scrolls, all starting when I began sharing my Skyrim adventures online a few years back.

She has since amassed quite the YouTube following with 1.3 million subscribers on the platform.

But while Shirley usually uploads content in the form of gameplay or vlogs several times a week, everyone’s favorite Skyrim Grandma has announced that she’s retiring from making gaming videos.

In a video titled “No More Gaming Videos,” posted on September 22, Shirley Curry confessed that she’s lost enthusiasm for content creation. She expressed that while it isn’t something that brings her joy, she feels compelled to continue… She admitted feeling weary and drained, with a diminished desire to engage in much activity anymore… In essence, she announced that she would no longer be recording gameplay videos.

Shirly went on saying, “It appears that a large portion of my days are spent right here, in front of this computer. Lately, for about a month now, I step into this room and gaze at my computer, thinking, ‘I need to create a video today.’ Sometimes, I even leave because I don’t feel like recording anything new.

“I used to enjoy making and sharing game videos, but that fun has faded away. Now, I feel drained and uninterested. Frankly, I’m tired of it. So, in light of these feelings, I’ve decided to stop creating and uploading game videos.

For enthusiasts of Skyrim, there’ll be the odd video blog update coming your way. Additionally, Shirley plans to periodically share updates on the books she’s currently engrossed in.

Apart from maintaining her YouTube channel, she intends to utilize some of her spare hours in the near future for writing a book and sewing a quilt that she has been contemplating for an extended period.

Two years have passed since Shirley requested that Bethesda publish The Elder Scrolls 6 prior to her demise. Remarkably, evidence from the FTC versus Microsoft court case hints that the upcoming installment may not be released before 2026 at the earliest.
