Vinland Saga creator confirms when manga will end

As a long-time fan of Vinland Saga, I must say that Makoto Yukimura’s creation has been a rollercoaster ride of emotions for me. From the frozen village to the warm and fertile land of Vinland, Thorfinn’s journey has been nothing short of epic. And now, as we approach the end of this magnificent saga, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and sadness.

The renowned artist behind the widely acclaimed Seinen manga series, Vinland Saga, has announced its upcoming conclusion. Here’s a summary of the details.

Vinland Saga tells the story of young Thorfinn embarking on a voyage to discover a mythical destination known as Vinland. In contrast to his chilly hometown, Vinland is believed to be a temperate and prosperous region free from conflict.

As opposed to his expectations, the journey turns out to be far more challenging for him. Upon arriving at Vinland in the concluding stages of the manga, he encounters difficulties that were not initially foreseen. With the Viking Saga manga nearing its conclusion, creator Yukimura has shared insights about the ending.

Vinland Saga creator confirms when manga will end

According to an interview with Anime Corner, Makoto Yukimura, the creator of Vinland Saga, mentioned that as of October 18, 2024, he has just a handful of chapters left to complete the story for Vinland Saga.

So far, things have unfolded exactly as I anticipated, but from here on out, it’s all uncharted territory for me. To be honest, I’m unsure of what lies ahead or how this situation will ultimately resolve itself. Regardless, I’ll give it my all.

During the interview, the interviewer inquired if Yukimura believed that the theme of Vinland Saga could guide us towards a more peaceful world. Yukimura responded by expressing his hope that this would be the case. He once heard someone say that we should reflect upon conflict even during times of peace.

“Since wars can break out without warning, it’s crucial we consider their implications before they occur. I wish everyone would think about peace now, and then maybe, just maybe, wars can be avoided in the future. If my message of urging thoughtfulness towards war reaches as many people worldwide as possible, it would bring me great joy.

The manga reached its concluding segment in December 2019. Earlier, in November 2019, Yukimura expressed on Twitter/X, “I’m really worried that my English skills might be leading to confusion. Essentially, Vinland Saga is split into four main sections.

Thus far, I’ve completed three sections: ‘War’, ‘Slave’, and ‘Eastern Expedition’. Now, I’m moving on to the final section. This one promises to span over 1000 pages and more than 50 chapters. Given its size, it seems it will take quite a few years to finish, assuming the serialization doesn’t get halted.

According to the comic creator, the last segment currently consists of 48 chapters and there are a few more left before it ends. Although no specific release date has been set, it’s likely that the manga will conclude within the next couple of months.

Vinland Saga is a monthly comic book series that’s being released in English as omnibus editions by Kodansha Comics. You can buy digital versions from Viz or order physical ones from Amazon. The story has also been turned into an anime, with both seasons now available for streaming on Crunchyroll and Netflix.
